I have an RBI question for all of you. If bases are loaded, line drive up the middle to center field. Third scores, Second rounds third and scores a throw was attempted but came late (no slide). B1 still at first base. Is that 1 RBI and an advance on throw or 2 RBI's? The coach has been doing this all season (1 RBI and an advance on throw). He does it for everyone, daughter included. I just am curious how it is supposed to be scored because I would think it would be 2 RBI's. Thanks.

You need a new scorekeeper. It doesn't matter if the play was close at the plate or if they didn't throw it at all. The only thing that matters is that the girl got a hit
to CF and both runners scored as a direct result of it. It's 2 RBI's

Not if she was held at third and the throw came into second and got away from 2B it would be 1 RBI and the other scored on an error.

It would also not be 2 RBI's if the catcher caught the ball with plenty of time to make the tag on 2nd runner and dropped the ball but it has to be a pretty obvious error. If she were to slide just as ball arrived and ball came loose it's not an error on C.

Where the concept of on the throw would take play is if the batter and runner on 1st moved up as a result of the throw to the plate as a way to account for their bases.

That is how I would think it would be. Unless they advanced after an error, it would be 2 RBI's. Thanks for the confirmation. I have been surprised by a bunch of rules this year, so I wasn't going to assume I was right.

Ask the questions to this group. There are those much smarter than I am to answer some of the more difficult ones.

It's without a doubt, 2 RBI. As was said previously, unless there was an error prior to both runs.
