So Cal
The runner sure took a path to interfere with the play.

That's what I see, too, but I'm not clear on what the runner is allowed to do. Clearly, the runner was intentionally positioning herself in the throwing lane from 3B to C in an attempt to break up the play. This was a bases-loaded, 1 out situation.

IMO, the runner can't see behind her, and what F5 is doing. She can see what F2 is doing, as the catcher moves to the front corner of the plate, it appears the runner sees that and based on the ground ball, hopefully she can dislodge the ball from F2...

But in the end... I would say yes INT

I'm guessing for the fun of it. Not an umpire.

Except when going to first, the runner can take any route she wishes, except when avoiding a tag. She was not avoiding a tag. Catcher could've moved into foul territory to take a throw that would not hit the runner. So I vote no call.

Be gentle if I'm wrong.

CB - I think you may be correct, but I'm not sure. If it's within the rules, it's savvy base-running that paid off.

runner had a clear shot at home plate. she moved on purpose to interfere. how is she not out?

My best guess...

Until the fielder is in the act of receiving the thrown ball (ball entering glove/mitt), the runner has the right of way, and may run on any path she wants.

I'm curious to hear from one of our rules experts on this issue.

Here is the NCAA definition.

1.72 Interference
Equipment or the act of an offensive player, coach, umpire or spectator that
denies the fielder a reasonable opportunity to play the ball. The act may be
intentional or unintentional and the ball must have been playable.

Is that for a batted ball, thrown ball, or both?
