Good grief, 65 is world class. I think there were 2 or 3 girls that legitimately threw 65 or a little better in the World Cup in Oklahoma City last summer. They were Americans, and Ueno didn't pitch. I saw a lot of bogus speeds, including change-ups that registered 67mph. I don't have an explanation.

Steve, I'm not questioning you, but I've seen several over 60. I watched a high school freshman here in Georgia hit 69 (not game conditions). Two guns were on here and one was my pitching coach so I know it was accurate. The issue for her is control.

Dang, wish I'd known that was on, would have recorded it. Anybody know how to find out when fastpitch softball (any level) will be televised?

All I know is when in doubt we live in a world with video recorders on most phones and cameras now.
So...Record it and verify with the age old way..MATH :p
First you convert 43 feet into miles. There are 5280 feet in a mile, so dividing 43 feet over 5280 feet = .008 miles.
Next convert .5 seconds into hours. There are 3600 seconds in an hour, so dividing .5 seconds over 3600 seconds = .00013 hours.
.008 miles (distance) divided by .00013 hours (time) = 61.5 miles per hour.

Keep in mind trying to do this with a stopwatch on the field rarely ever going to be accurate as the person starting and stopping the stopwatch could not start/stop on time. Believe it or not this happens often. We are talking a matter of hundreds of a second so blink or anythign else and you could miss .01 of a second and be off by 4 mph.

But linking it to video taken from a good vantage point will allow you to narrow down a more accurate number than an 8 mph discrepancy.

All that said I really do not care as much yet about speed. I care if it is effective. And there is one way to know that...Game Play.
IMHO Speed is not always the end all answer. ;)

Daddy, it is not my claim that 65mph is "world class". That is an ASA Olympic Selection Committee position. Very few girls in the world have ever thrown 69mph. Those that I have seen are: Joan Joyce, Michele Granger, Michele Smith (67 typical), Jenny Finch (same as Smith), Monica Abbott, Yukiko Ueno (Japan), and I think Angela Tincher (67 typically) could do it though I never saw her live. No one on the National Team now throws 69.

I am not saying this girl doesn't do it. I am just saying it is rarified air. Michele Granger was the only girl at 16 that could throw near that speed.

I have the ESPN app on my xbox. If you search for softball you can usually replay a lot of last years games including WCWS, NPF, World Cup, and several youth league championship games.

Would you mind educating me a bit? I thought the xbox was just a game console. We have a Wii, wonder if it does something similar.

We played in a showcase in the Marietta, GA I think it was November. They had an individual clinic to showcase individuals players to coaches. My daughter was injured and trying to play through her ankle sprain and did not participate in the clinic. They posted the pitchers speed they had two pitchers that broke 60 MPH of all the pitchers who were at the clinic.

I had a college coach who during a speech claim his pitcher was throwing 72 on a radar gun. She pitched on TV two weeks later and was nowhere near 72 on the TV radar.

I did see Monica Abbott pitch in 20 degree weather with a 20 + wind in her face and a guy behind the plate had a gun and she was 68-71 on his gun, this was when she played for Tennessee.
