Mark mentioned this in another thread as a good pitching aid.

I just watch a Utube video (softballjunk.com)... seemed to concentrate on more advanced pitches....

My daughter is working on fastball, change up, and slip-pitch......

I had heard that some of the other pitches were not physically good for kids under 13/14.

Thoughts?

Hello,

It does a great job with advanced pitches because you can basically mimic any delivery, one for each of the advanced pitches.

The beauty of this device is that you can adjust the resistance from a spinner (no resistance at all and it spins a lot with little pressure) to a lot of resistance and where it is really hard to spin the thing - kinda like a brake action.

As a trained kinesiologist and certified strength coach, it is my believe that any pitcher can benefit from it. Studies and experts CLEARLY support resistance training for kids above the age of 8. There is NO controversy- all experts agree on that (consensus) but there has to be guidelines.

This device train the specific muscle that are responsible for spinning the ball. You don't get that specific with any other device or piece of equipment.

With that said, what I would do with a younger pitcher is to keep the resistance lower and really train the fastball release to strengthen her forearm muscles. I would do work with it 2-3x a week. Within a couple of weeks, you will good results on the quality of the spin.

My opinion.

Cheers,

Marc

Let me preface this by saying...I am not a fan of "gadgets".

However, we LOVE this device! It is great for training the finger, hand and wrist muscles precisely the way you would use them while throwing a pitch.

My DD's spins have become tighter and better after about three months of use.

So many thanks.
Trying to get both my daughters stronger and pitching better ... but want to make sure that they don't get hurt.
Our coaches here frown on pitches beyond the change up and fastball before 13 ....better safe than sorry.

Probably going to pick up this and the Perfect Circle ....
These seem to be good and something we canwork on inside ...
it is raining a lot here lately!

THANK YOU

Curious about the slip pitch. If it is what I think it is I would suggest forgetting it. A slip pitch is illegal in college because the arm makes another circle after the ball is released.
Other than the fact that it is a "cute" pitch for little girls, I can't understand why anyone would teach it.
Correct me if your slip pitch is something different than described.

Slip pitch

No extra circle...actually the pitch is delivered during wind up before the windmill arm motion...
..pitcher winds back then instead of going around, lobs ball ...
batters waiting for circle get caught off guard as pitch is coming...

I'm not bothering working on this with my daughter ..

Our #1 pitcher does this pitch (very well) and it is a surprise ..
She's a slap her leg loud with the glove pitcher....
now she's working on the under the leg pitch ...ugh!

My daughter is LL 11 .....not fancy (quiet kid), but hardly walks anyone ... good control, doesn't get rattled or out of control when pitching...
Her pitching motion is ridiculously simple, but works the plate well ...change up gets better every week...
This is who she is so we work with what her strengths are and not try to change who she is ..
Other pitcher is more flamboyant .... different kid, different style...these girls are good friends ... each hang with their own "circle" but with each other too.
