DFP-er's I think it's about time we had our own list of instructors. I always see people ask and/or post Tincher's link. I'm willing to host or maintain it until we have somewhere to put it (a.k.a. fastpitch foundations?). What do you think? Even if your schedule is full it would be nice to have a list. If there already list on DFP perhaps it should be a sticky. Parents can post instructors who they know teach similar mechanics.

Update: Let's try this to start...

This list is not discriminatory. You don't have to be "certified" or the best. All this list says is that you follow dfp threads and you've read I/R in the Classroom, and drive mechanics, and hopefully more.

You should be able to add/edit yourself.

I thought about adding a self rating column. For instance on a scale of HE to Java/RP/BM how well can you teach IR. If you don't get that joke you shouldn't put your name on the list.

This is a fantastic idea (although none will be in Oklahoma for me to use)

There was a list somewhere on here.

I searched through and couldn't find anything. If there is one I can combine the old one with the new one. Or someone should add it as a sticky. I'm going to set it up. When I have it I'll add the link to my original post.

Just a question about the proposed list...

When I had my business in full swing, I would be asked frequently to "certify" people in different places. The rationale being, I couldn't be everywhere. So, I understood that. And I understand why Mr Tincher does it. But the reason I never did it was my overall lack of faith in people. Cynical, I know. But what stops someone from paying their "certification fee" attending my workshop(s), then using my name to drum up business only to teach them things I am completely opposed to? How would I ever know? I pose that question to this list: how would you know if someone is teaching "IR" or "fastpitch foundations"? Anyone can SAY they are doing it, but are they really? What are the checks and balances? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE know I'm not against it, I think it's a fabulous idea. And we have to hope that people on the list will act in good faith but, will they? There are PC's out there just stealing money from people right now. And I fully think that even some of the PC's who teach the WORST possible mechanics are doing so with genuine belief that they are helping. Despite being the worst of cynics, I don't think anyone goes out with malice or intent to teach someone BAD mechanics. Most do so out of pure ignorance, not harmful intent. But they are there non-the-less. Again, not wanting to be a negative nelly. Just a concerned guy who doesn't want to see the pitching coach mafia exploit your idea.

You've got lots of questions there!!

I agree there is nothing to stop someone getting their cert then doing something different. As a parent it is up to us to try and be as knowledgeable as possible. That is how we would know. Also, in the case of Tincher, I believe Denny makes himself pretty available via email to ask questions directly. Also, I think the fee can't be just $$ it is a time commitment and the the certifying body needs to see that the certify-ee truly is buying into the program and not just giving lips service. I understand it is not easy. And it is very possible that the extra time commitment is large for Denny (I really don't know). But in return besides for the cert fees, he has a huge built in network for weekend camps with the 'Master'. I believe you used to do these (still do?), so the benefit I am assuming may or may not be real.

I have to tell you, I went to a pitching coach on recommendation. A Lovely woman who my daughter immediately took to. She immediately put my daughter into palm down at 3:00. I asked about palm up instead. She immediately said, "Like Hillhouse?" She shivered like no way. Then said "It is bad for the arm to pith that way."

The list on this particular post is not a certified list nor can it tell you how well someone teaches certain aspects. It's just a start of list of people who have at least been on this forum and have read through this forum at some point because how else would they have found the list. I agree that you can certify someone and it doesn't always mean that they will recognize issues or work on the right problems first. I believe there is another thread that java started that asks what's important for a person if there was a certification process. For instance if fastpitch foundations started one, I for one would sign up the second it was posted. I don't care about the certificate I just want to learn everything they have to offer and I'm willing to pay for it.

I guess a certification means that at least the instructor was willing to learn and further their education and explore other peoples opinions. That sometimes is the most important thing.

ok, so I have been on DFP for several years and began learning about IR. DD and I muddled through for several years until I attended the clinic in Indy and met some of the people I had been reading. More time goes by, more muddling and then we meet chrispotts and begin working with him. hmmm, more things begin to click. less muddling, more learning and understanding, and I pick up a student or two. and then Java comes to Buffalo. needless to say, we go to Buffalo. (cue the bright sunlight and heavenly softball cherubs singing.) point being , looking at your list, do I put my name up there knowing I'm not in the same ball park as these folks? or do I sign up, knowing my goal is to get my students ready to move up to java and I believe I can? you originally talked of some sort of gradation as to skill level comfort. I think that is a good idea.
