Going to take Dd to spend some time with a certified instructor. I really haven't heard
a lot about tincher. Should be interesting.
Anybody seeing a Tincher instructor?

Certifications are an interesting concept. I would argue that "certification" doesn't necessarily translate into what you might think it does. Sure, you'll find SOME "certified" instructors who are good. But you will also find some "certified" instructors who are not so good. Further, just because some pitching instructor isn't "certified" by this organization or that organization doesn't necessarily mean they don't provide good/proper instruction.

Just that this notion of "certification" with a grain of salt.

We had one come in and work with a travel team I was involved with. She had some 'absolutes' that I mildly disagreed with but overall I was impressed. Certainly a lot better than the 'wrist-snappers' that are still all too common. If you look at what's involved in getting a Tincher certification it's a bit of an investment in time and money, not an 'internet degree' for sure.

The local Tincher instructor in the Chicago area is Jonathan Hon, he is very highly regarded in the pitching community in this area. I can't speak for all Tincher instructors since I have never seen or met them.

My DD is 15 has been seeing a certified Tincher pitching coach for the last 9 months, and she made an immediate positive impact on her mechanics and velocity. She had three previous pitching coaches, since she was 8 years old, but we highly recommend the Tincher method for efficient mechanics.

And, the Tincher method is actually being officially studied now per https://extrainningsoftball.com/bre...-the-impact-of-throwing-a-fastpitch-softball/.

My daughter has been seeing a Tincher instructor for a few years now and even had a few clinics with Denny himself. I have nothing but high praise for him and his system.
Some Tincher instructors are better than other, as would be expected. They all teach the same philosophy, though. The philosophy is going to be same as core ideas of the I/R stuff on here. He did not reinvent pitching.

What I really like: he is not set in his ways. His instructors have to work with him so many hours each year to remain certified (at least that is my educated best guess on what I have seen) I think having 30-50 people who all teach the same thing exchanging ideas is a good thing. He had a few new drills and ways of doing things the second time we saw him vs the first. For instance, he had a new idea this last time on how to stop the glove hand from swimming- a huge issue with my daughter that she really struggles with. We will be trying that out now.

DD sees a Tincher pitching coach in Atlanta and we love her. DD's also had several sessions with Denny Tincher. She loves him. She's been going through some crazy stuff with her mechanics since a massive growth spurt last fall and I really don't think a lot of pitching coaches would have been as helpful as she's been. Regarding the certification issue, what you get from that is knowing that your pitching coach went through a process of learning about proper mechanics and how to teach them. It seems like most PCs are ex-college pitchers who are just teaching what they learned, which may or may not be correct or healthy. Doesn't mean every Tincher coach is going to be awesome. There will be varying degrees of aptitude like with any job. But I do think that you see more consistency with Tincher if for no other reason than that they're all learning these same things when they become instructors.

Dandan,

Schedule the first lesson. Go and enjoy the experience. If you have questions, make sure you ask. If it seems like it makes sense, then it probably does. It's always worth your money to experiment, because there are alot of good instructors out there and you very well may land the diamond that you otherwise may have simply looked past. Hoping that you do. :D

As far as certification, the credentials that would attract me to an instructor would include something to the extent of ... 1) Has played the game, 2) Has a proven, successful history as a player and as a coach, 3) Can demonstrate clearly that what they're teaching your daughter is exactly what they themselves do and can demo, 4) That style is closely molded to a professional standard, 5) Willingness and enthusiasm to offer you personal references and 6) Gaurantees your satisfaction.

Otherwise, a certification endorsement is merely a share of Packers stock.

DD has been going to a Tincher instructor for two years. Obviously we're very happy with the program. If you're just starting out after any amount of time as an HE pitcher, expect to get worse (in terms of in-game performance) before she gets better. It takes time to shake off the bad habits, but it's worth it in the long run if your daughter is serious about being a pitcher.
