Anyone recommend a catchers mitt for a bucket dad? I have been using a Wilson outfielders glove and my hand is starting to swell up. I think its finally time to upgrade.

When my pitcher DD was younger I first used an old (think Vintage) Wilson outfielders glove then moved up to a newer Mizuno OF glove. Worked for a while but then the occasional stinger and a mild case of tendonitis in that elbow forced some changes. For the most part I was lucky as her twin, the catcher DD catches her most of the time but for the times when I still get to catch her I will grab her older Vinci or her Liberty Advanced. I prefer the Liberty at this point mainly due to sizing.

Most (if not all) softball catchers mitts are made for women. Really hard to fit those on big hands. the Akadema APM 66 is the biggest glove people could find, and it fits me well.

You'll want/need to learn how to catch the ball in the web. For your health. :)

Also, as many have probably learned, throwing into a bow net allows you to view her pitching from behind or the side, and alleviates the need to catch for her. We do a lot of her practices this way.

I’ve found if I raise my index finger high enough to where it does not touch the glove. It creates more awareness of my hand position and I always catch in the web. You will notice when you get relaxed because your finger gets popped.

You can also employ the finger shift and move the index finger over towards the smaller fingers.

My problem was finding one big enough. Very, very happy with this glove. From an email I sent to other bucket dads.

Here's the glove I ordered. Arrives in a few days. I'll bring it next Thursday for you both to see. Coupon code brought it down to about $100.

I have the same problem. Most gloves are way too small for my hand. I liked the idea of the baseball All Star CM3000KM Knuckle Ball Mitt but after looking online it seems that glove has been discontinued. Does anyone know where you can still get one of these?

The Vinci Fortus is like wearing a brick wall on your hand. DD had some trouble with it during her catching days, but since I don't have to worry about D3K's or resting my arm on my leg while catching it's been great for me. You get just enough sting at the base of your index finger to know when she's throwing really hard. Cheap too, they're like $100 retail.

So Cal
Rawlings Liberty Advanced palm pad is very good. Vinci is the best.

Finger shift will also help reduce the beating directly to the index finger.

Agreed. The good folks here steered me to one about a year ago and absolutely 2 thumbs up. Took a few months to get good and broke it but it is not breaking down at all. DD is low 50s at 40ft and if you catch it just wrong it will still stick you still. However I have zero thumb and hand pain that used to eat my lunch with the Mizuno MVP I used previously. Having said all that - if buying for a young lady....definitely have to be a stronger girl. Even after that year it’s still probably too stiff for under 13/14 IMO.

I just googled "akadema coupon code" and grabbed one off one of those retailmenot.com sites. I have no idea which code it was anymore.
