Has anyone seen Barnhill this season? Curious to know if she’s stepped up her game?

NC State coach gets a warning for asking third base ump why Barhill allowed to crow hop.
Still one set of rules for Barnhill and another for everyone else.

She is throwing 3-4 mph slower when not crow hopping.

That would be me. Timed her with pocket ballcoach. Verified with a retired softball coach who was also clocking her. I asked him why they didn't call it more and he said NCAA didn't see it as a real issue.

The funny thing is the see it as an issue with everyone else.

Barnhill as a sophomore... had two tools. Speed with bullet spin. Rise with backspin.

Barnhill as a junior... had 1.5 tools. Speed with bullet spin. Rise with sometimes rise, often bullet spin and about 2-3 mph more speed (hmm... wonder what happened to the spin axis... ;) )

Haven't seen her this year - but given the trend, lack of awareness of lost spin axis... and lets face it... lack of tools... (no down, no out, no real mix of speed anymore)

... well I hope she figures it out. Hard working young lady.

When someone is on top they do get more spotlight and more people want them to fail, looks like Barnhill is going thru that. Yes she does leap on some pitches but she is keeping that right foot on contact with the ground most of the time. Hope NCAA gets rid of this rule and give pitchers something against the umpire's coffee can strike zone and super hot bats.

Agreed Phandle...As a pitcher’s dad I would prefer something to combat the super hot bats like what you described. Any part of the ball over the plate at any point and knees to letters is a strike. I would rather them keep the back foot down though. That curve that catches the front corner of the plate but then the catcher catches on the chalk line that gets called a ball drives me up the wall.

She is not keeping it on the ground most of the time now, she just doesn't leap as high. There are other pitchers in the spotlight that pitch legally.

No one wants her to fail, what most people want is for her to follow the rules, and the rules to be the same for every pitcher. Barnhill is not the same when she pitches within the rules.

As to the size of the strike zone, what leads you to believe it has gotten smaller?

Have 'hot' bats cause ERA's to increase significantly?
