Clearwater invitational pitching speeds

I'm just curious as to why the gun is off at all. My daughter throws from 61-63 on a pocket radar ballcoach....I would love to know how that compares to some of what I see on tv...but if ESPN is truly off then who knows...smh

I noticed at Clearwater there were 2 people right behind the umpire next to the announcer both with pocket radars and were comparing speed while entering something into a laptop. Not sure if that’s were speed was coming from but they were there.

IME most stadiums and ESPN uses the Stalker series of radar. It takes only about 10 seconds to adjust the cosine and effectively juice the speeds. Although Pocket Radar does not have all of the added value of the Stalker, it's simplicity makes it much easier to trust.

At the USF tourney all the teams had people charting pitches behind the plate. To a person they all used pocket ball coach radars.

USF used to display pitch speed but that has disappeared for some reason. They were always 4MPH too fast.

Some colleges have staffers clocking pitches of their own team and writing them down in the games we've attended. We sat next to one at a game down south and she was showing DD what she does. She said they chart speed and try to determine what pitch was thrown. Then after the game she said that they go through and review.

My DD hit 73mph at USF her Junior year. She thought it was hilarious.
