My daughter is 10, Right handed pitcher, she is more left leg dominant. She has been pitching for 1.5 years and has continued to improve each month. She tends to leap out with her left leg doing most of the work and little push from right. I want her to synchronize both legs for the drive at a young age.We currently do sprinter start drill from Rick Pauly. And it is helping. What other drills do yall recommend? Any one leg drills like this link Watch "Softball Pitching Tips: Generating leg power - Amanda Scarborough" on YouTube

Thanks

Make sure her right toes are detatched off the rubber as her ball and glove are at 3:00...
If she's got a weak drive, the detatchment will happen closer to 12:00

Focus on the Core to generate Core Torque and the drive will take care of itself. Her left leg is likely (need video to see confirm) is trying to get her body in a position to throw with power.

I notice when my DDs focus is on driving straight out she has trouble getting her arm back as far at 900 and loses some speed. Because she is opening later I feel that she doesn't have as much time to get it back and also because the hips are more towards the catcher she does not have the flexibility or enough "torque" in her core to get it back. Is this what you are talking about? How do you improve this?

When I think of core torque and how it applies to pitching, I think of offset timing. Making sure the FSR is what's actually creating a hip snap. It's that hip snap that creates a torque within the torso that now must be resisted after approximately 1/4 turn. This is a specific sequence that'll aid in the whip of the arm.
All of this is a NO TEACH!! If she has a correct sequence, good drive mechanics, achieves brush, and has good resistance (all 4 points). The core torque will be a result of these key indicators.

Thanks. This is what i am asking, how to teach proper drive mechanics to ensure she is using both legs correctly. Try is yourself. As a right handed pitcher leap using mainly your left leg for momentum. Then try it using your right leg for momentum. How do you teach using both legs together if left is more dominant?

Based on your explanation (and without video) I would say that is likely what is going on MattM. I think the drive is an obvious important piece but many times IMO kids (or coaches/parents) get too wrapped up in it TOO EARLY before the proper sequence is taught or learned. Sounds like she is driving hard (and maybe too far) versus putting her body in a position to pitch. In other words, she skips the sequence or is too late with the sequence to provide power and generate any torque. "Its not where you are going, it's how you get there."

I will add to this below in another post.
