My daughter started pitching this fall when I had no pitchers and needed someone who could throw it over the plate. By the end of the fall she actually had some decent success, and in our last tournament struck out 15 and walked 11 in two games. I was very happy with that.

I’ve read all the stickied posts trying to learn all I can about pitching. I know that I still don’t understand about half of what’s posted!! But trying to learn and help my DD get better.

I know a big thing we need to work on is her load, it’s very anemic right now. But I think she’s doing a lot pretty okay, too, to my untrained eye. But what do you all think? What should we work on and concentrate on? Anything she’s doing that’s flat wrong?

My DD is not gifted with size, she’s the smallest kid in her grade, so she knows that she’ll need to work on technique to get the power some taller kids get naturally.

Omg I love that little jig at the end of the pitch lol. Looks good! For starters, Tell her to start with her right leg on the power line. Right now she's jumping to the left in order to get her left foot onto the power line. Right foot starts on power line to push out, left foot strides out and lands on the same power line.

Did she throw a strike? She gave a little pump at the end there, it was so cute. She looks really good for 8 or 9 year old. Enjoy the journey and try not to go crazy with all the info's available on the internet and over coach her. Let her have fun and she will figure it out with your help. Couple things that jump out are she is making her glove had to go up instead of going with the motion and second is she is walking forward after letting the ball go. Ideally her whole body should come to a complete stop when she propels the ball forward.
But make it fun and enjoy the journey and don't try to over tweak it.

She did throw a strike there. I almost cut out that part since it's not really pitching related, but it was too cute to not leave in. Sometimes it's good to remind ourselves that they are still just young girls!

The little jig made me smile this morning! Thank you for that. I've said it on here before. If i could start over, we would play a lot of catch underhand without trying to pitch. Just talking and laughing and throwing underhand (both of us). Then eat some ice cream and do it again the next day. She's off to a great start.

The only 2 things I would fix at this point are the one above and work on her arm being loose and not jerking it back. The sooner they learn loose (and whippy) the less fight you will have later on. I’d say inside her mind she is worried about strikes so I would fix the arm by throwing into a tarp. And have fun!

She's having fun, she's throwing strikes. That's awesome.

But yes, there are some things to work on. FSR (front side resistance) being a biggie. Like the post I quoted, take your time, try to be positive. I ride my DD too hard some days and always regret it. She's 9 too.
