Hello all. We have been working hard since my last post on getting my daughter to stop leaning so much and she’s improved a lot. Now we are trying to figure out how to get that arm Tighter through the zone. She’s 11 and has seemed to gone back a little from 10u and I’m not sure if it’s because the size difference of the ball
Or the 5 ft further back from last season that has her mechanics all out of whack that she’s trying to muscle the ball. Here’s a video. Let me know what you think ! https://youtu.be/ci3TFjA1nAs
Any drills or tips are appreciated

My correction would start with angles front stride foot at 45 degrees instead of 90 same with hips. In other words she is facing 1st base. Needs to be more towards home plate. Slow pitch down to about 50% to get form correct. Read more about fsr front side resistance. Next focus on arm circle. At 10 sec of video her arm has disappeared behind her causing her arm to change direction to get around her hips then change again to get toward destination. I tell dd pitching is like a dance or cheer. Your feet and hands have to get to a specific spot at the right time to do the cheer. Same with pitch step here straight leg straight back hands here at this time if you do it perfect the ball will be a strike every time. Keep working hard

Moving to a bigger ball and farther distance all at the same time really puts a stress on mechanics. At that age, when my dd's mechanics went bad, we moved to strictly a wiffle ball for 2 months. Worked out great.

Really ? A wiffle ball ? That’s interesting. Can I ask what that did as far as how it helps with mechanics ? Thankyou for the idea !

I would second the whiffle ball recommendation. Your DD is struggling with trusting the brush and maybe losing grip on the ball.

Slow it down and use a whiffle (tennis) ball to get the looseness and trust back with her throwing....then work to a 12” softball with that same focus of looseness. Rinse and repeat as needed but don’t rush to pitch.

Keep it simple and focus on throwing underhand correctly with anything you have available. TIP: When you play catch watch where her hand naturally finishes and that will tell you if she is brushing (waist level and loose/ not forced low).

On her pre (taking the ball back) she's going way behind her back, which then sets the arm circle on a path to be far from her body at release.

Try keeping the ball on the powerline in her pre, and it should correct that arm circle and have her arm tighter to her body (and that brush resistance you want).

My daughter just had this exact thing corrected by her pitching coach and it's now one thing I watch closely.
