From his wife, Linda
On May 11, 2017, we lost a great man. A man who loved the game of Fast Pitch Softball and pitched for 27 years. He was inducted into the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK, Indiana Softball Hall of Fame, Missouri Softball Hall of Fame and Ohio Softball Hall of Fame. When he retired from what he called his “real job”, he devoted his last 16 years to the sport of Fastpitch in Arkansas. His impact has been felt near and far. This impact cannot be denied. His tireless development of hundreds of pitchers allowed the sport to expand and for competition to grow. It is our intention and the intention of many others to see that legacy continue forever. We have created a Board of Trustees to oversee the donations and development of the annual Roy Burlison Honorary Scholarship Tournaments. Both 100% of donations and 100% of the profits from these annual tournaments (less 5% to Arkansas Community Foundation (acf) for managing the funds) will go to scholarships for deserving players across the state. We can't think of a better way to continue the work that Roy "Burly" Burlison started. His love and devotion to the sport was unmatched. I hope that you will help continue the legacy.

The attachment above is the 2 scholarships being offered.
I never got to meet him in person but had some correspondence with him. He was always friendly and down to earth. He had a love and passion for the game of softball.

From his wife:
Above are the details for the scholarship application process and requirements. We are pleased to announce that the first honorary tournament for Roy has allowed us to provide two $2,000 scholarships to softball players that will be chosen from applicants that meet the required criteria. We are blessed to be able to do this via funds raised through the tournament and private donations. This scholarship is open to softball players who also excel academically, as that was very important to Roy. Scholarships will be given each year. These are one time scholarships as they are not continuous year to year. THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS JANUARY 31st, 2019. We hope to be able to offer more scholarships in the following years. Through annual tournament growth and private donations we are hopeful that the number of scholarships will increase. We are confident that there is no better way to honor Roy's memory and legacy.
