Pitching requires an explosive athletic movement toward home plate. Not sure why you want to stand sideways at the start. I get that they do in baseball but that is to control runners on base so it is apples to carrots when compared to softball.

Overhand/baseball pitching is like hitting, a golf swing or a forearm stroke in tennis where starting sideways is much more efficient in transferring power from the ground. It does not work for kicking a ball, sprinting, leaping or throwing a ball underhand.
