How many weeks is your DD planning to take off this winter? We have a camp this weekend then were gonna shut down until 1/5. Next camp is 1/12 so a full three weeks. Not enough IMO but better than nothing. DD needs it. Starting to show some signs of fatigue.

5 weeks. My preference is 8 weeks, but that is not possible with the camps coming up. I have greatly enjoyed the time off. My daughter, on the other hand, can't wait to start up again. She was ready after about 2 days off.

PC says 3-5 weeks. We took 4 (29 days to be exact) off and it was just about perfect. DD started talking about “can’t wait to pitch again” around day 25. That was my barometer on when the mind and body had cleared the clutter and was ready to go again. Basketball has kept her busy so the fitness didn’t completely go, however that first couple times throwing she was fatigued rather quickly, surprisingly. Pitchers....just a different animal! :)

I insist on two full months and would go three if I could get away with it. No pitching in November and December, period. And then we slowly ramp back up in January / February. First tourney won't be till late March. She's first year 14U, so doesn't have to deal with a HS Coach and their needs / wants / expectations yet.

Funny part was that my DD's team just added a fifth, strong pitcher this Winter. All the girls (parents) are now super nervous because, um, five?, um, yeah, maybe they should be nervous. I'm the only parent sticking to my guns and saying no pitching for two months. All the rest skipped a break and are diligently trying to show their dedication. In December. Sigh...

4+ weeks in my less-than-edumacated opinion. I've seen kids take 2-3 months off and come back REALLY strong and have never seen a break of any duration adversely affect a kid who has at least 6 weeks to amp back up.

We took off most of the fall this year. She pitched in two tournaments since August. We started back 3 weeks ago after HS volleyball ended. The volleyball really took away our ability to practice softball. This will be her longest break in about 4 years.

5 pitchers, wow.

Our little 10U team full of 9 year olds has two decent and two below average. All are working hard to get better. But in tournaments it's mainly the top two who pitch, and that works well for us.

Dd is 14 and took off October (due to an injury) and most of November (season over). Has started back slowly by pitching once a week. This is the longest break she has ever taken from pitching.

DD2 took most of her time off after PGF. Her team did 4 Showcases and 2 locals this Fall/Winter so far. She just got back from a Camp and doing 2 more before going dark for HS. Still have a local tourney in Jan. and a invite tourney at end of Jan.
So I guess not much of a Winter break.
