Any correlation to over hand throwing speed and windmill speed?

Here is the twitter conversation I had with Austin Wasserman about it. My sample size is way too small to have any validity, and he even mentioned his sample size was pretty small as well.

@Wass_Strength - "We are seeing a positive correlation to it, meaning similar speeds +/- 3 with those who are competitive pitchers and also play another position. Rotational abilities and strength/stability with these athletes are far superior than others. We don’t have a big enough sample size so looking for help with those correlation numbers of HS/College/NPF. The ones that we’ve had were 64-65 underhand and 64-68 overhand. 58-60 underhand was 55-60 overhand and the 53-55 underhand was 50-55 overhand."

Thanks for the reply. My daughter is a big strong girl. Overhand speed is 63-65 avg. She is struggling with speed gains with pitching - stuck at 55-57 avg for a long time. Trying to find what is wrong/missing. Was wondering if others saw correlation and what her potential pitching speed could be. Thanks again.

No problem. If you upload video of your DD, or if you didnt want to do that, DM it to someone, I'm sure some of the people here could help you out with what she could do better. Lots of knowledgeable people here!

Not sure there is much correlation. At a combine my dd’s OH throw was 51; fastest pitch was 61.

Can you upload a video of her overhand and underhand using an iphone 6s or higher using the slow motion video option? Maybe I can help but if not it's more for my curiosity. I've been building an overhand throwing seminar and I'm trying to see some higher level throwers (overhand) in slow motion. I'm already running pitching seminars based on olympic/high level college pitchers but it's hard to find good overhand throwing videos where I know the person is throwing above 60.

Physics plays a role and players with longer limbs usually have an advantage, strength can also be a factor, but a lot of the time it comes down to God given talent. Some players can just naturally throw harder than others.

That is very true. My 12yo 06' daughter was at a camp and hit 56-59(never below 56) from three different measuring devices throwing 10 balls and the instructors said "wow we didn't see that coming". Shes not real tall or big but her arm strength and arm motion is off of the charts.

I had a SS who was a first team All American. She had an absolute cannon for an arm. Couldn't pitch a lick...:D Sorry, couldn't resist.
