I think his glove arm is utilized quite a bit, but only from the elbow up towards the arm pit...

I agree and it is utilized quite a bit like Ueno. Hard to see from the short clips above but in the full video he looks alot like Ueno below. Agree he doesn't get quite as open as she does.

This is exactly the issue my DD has right now. Mechanics are pretty good and has decent Front side resistance and good brush, but it is done in a methodical way, which I think is leaving speed on the table. Trying to get her to be explosive from 12 into brush (explosive adduction) but is harder said than done.

Take note of the torso action (inclusive of the upper rear leg) involved with the adductive action. The torso is a significant engine.

Any thoughts on cues to use that could get this across to a 14 year old? It comes somewhat natural to me but at the same time not easy to verbalize it to my DD.

Sure ... a cue I've used is "get your back into it". It is a 'feel' in the rear lower back. Leads to the 'pulling' and thoracic extension you see taking place.

Dinonj,

I think what your looking to improve upon is increasing her core torque. Drive, plant and most things under the sun are part of the process. Have a look at the attached video starting at about 0:19. There's alot of core energy especially in that throwing side lat, gluteous and quad. Mentally envisioning and trying to feel the throwing arm as an attachment to the core torque engine on the backside, rather than a seperate individual moving part. In layman's terms...she's just trying to leverage her weight into and behind her pitches. ;)

If she has good posture and mechanics already, learning how to use her own physical attributes to develop and deploy power should help her eventually build upon velocity and movement. Sacrificing a little location early on is to be expected, but muscle memory should adapt pretty quickly.

Thanks Chris,

I think you’ve described the issue perfectly. It hasn’t clicked for her yet that her arm is an extension of her core and the power that is available from her core.

She has a similar issue with the bat as well - I’m my opinion she’s not using her core nearly to the extent that is available so is leaving a lot of power on the table.

We’ll look to focus in on this in the upcoming days and see how things progress.

Thanks again for the input.
