The better pitchers I've measured typically have greater spin on the rise than the drop. I figured it is because it is easier to impart spin on a rise.

Greetings. I've followed this forum for years but never posted. My daughter is a 12 yr old pitcher and the information on this site has been invaluable. Thank you all.

My daughter has never been known for her velocity, but she does locate the ball pretty well and has some nice movement on most of her pitches. I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the Revfire 2 and we got ours on Friday. After 2 days of constant rain we were able to take it out this afternoon and give it a try. I'd say it registered a reading about 95% of the time, so no issues with that. I feel the speed is a little off. I stepped off 40ft + 3 for the catcher but it still seemed to be a little fast. I would be surprised if my daughter broke 52 on any pitch and it was consistently clocking her at 54-55. But we didn't get the Revfire to measure velocity, it's all about the spin. As shaker1 mentioned in the other Revfire post, it would be great to see what kind of numbers people are getting, so here we go...

Age: 12
Fastball: 24.0 RPS - 54mph (I didn't have my pocket radar, but I'd bet it was closer to 51-52)
Dropball: 22.2 RPS - 55mph
Riseball: 22.5 RPS - 54 mph
Changeup: 14.0 RPS - 39 mph
Curveball: 21.3 RPS - 54 mph
Screwball: 23.3 RPS - 54 mph

Please post your numbers. Thanks.

Can I ask you what type of "fastball" she throws that gets the highest spin rate of all of her pitches? My DD's drop ball (which is her 4-seam "fastball") has the most RPS and velocity of all of her pitches. And sluggers, she does have all of the pitches but I will agree with you that she has only "mastered" her drop ball and change-up that she has been throwing since she was 7YO. lol....

Nose up bullet spin like a not so perfect riseball. She's always kept her hand inside the ball at release and we never tried to "fix" it to get drop ball spin. It made learning the curveball easier and will hopefully lead to a true backspin riseball as she gets older.

Speaking honestly... Im really disappointed in my RV2 balls... extremely inconsistent to say the least. One of the balls quit working within the first week of use. (they did replace it quickly) Seems like a waste of money so far. Approx every 3rd pitch reads 0.0, and the other two are either 4. something or 12. something. Then all of a sudden it'll read 25rps!... WTH? I really have no clue what their spin rates actually are...

Hey Coach James,
From the information you provided us a week ago, you have set up with a pitching distance of 35 feet or less. Are you using that distance with a 10U pitcher? There may be some adaptation required if a 16U or 18U pitcher is throwing in a tight space. Please contact use at info@re vfire.com
Thank you!

I miss the old days when crap like this could be resolved quickly and effectively with a simple phone call.

I am seeing this as well thought these numbers were crazy high spin rates. My 16u dd was at 14 -18 then 26-28 range no change in distance

So DD used it last night at her lesson and this is what the spin rates were:

Drop: 15-17
Rise: 21-24
Curve: 23-26
Change: 12-14

DD is 14. These are different pitches with different spin. PC is all about spin but the numbers I'm reading seem very high. I wish this ball read axis as well as spin

PC said drops above 15 rps are pretty good.

Thanks for the response,
My students range between 9 - 18 yrs old. However my 10u kids are not measuring spin just yet. Everyone I'm using the RV with is at 40 or 43 feet.
My basement cage is small. The ball is actually in flight for only about 25 feet before it hits the hanging piece of carpet. I assumed this was the cause of the inconsistent numbers. So, the past few nights, I've had my students throwing outside in my full cage. I was hoping this would be the difference maker. Not so much... still very inconsistent. Its hard to have a teachable moment with a kid by saying how posture, grip strength, and release angles will affect spin rates (aka movement) when the data is soooo inconsistent. VERY FRUSTRATING

Agreed! If her axis is tight, 15rps on a drop will really fall off the table!
