This is a great thread. Thanks STRIKE3 for starting it. DD has been working on velocity and FSR for a few weeks. This thread has really given me some ideas.

I have watched these videos and gifs over and over - and showed DD. Her first comment was "She just took out all the extra stuff didn't she" which sort of says it in a nutshell to me too. One of my DD's struggles from day one has been getting too soft in the front leg and ruining her chain of power. She is 5'7" and her stride is about 7 1/2 ft and I look at this and others I've been watching with shorter strides and thinking if she wasn't out there so far it would help a lot to be firmer on the front side and have more control. This is our winter project is to shorten the stride 6 inches or so and keeping working on the firm front side. Thanks for sharing.

One important clue may be her lead (left) foot.
Her motion doesnt elevate that lead foot much at all, and she never appears to be “reaching” with her lead leg, like so many pitchers seem to do, presuamably to increase stride length?

I think the more your stride is “reach initiated” by the lead side, the more the back side will get left behind.

In Garcia, i see her powering her stride from the rear (right) side. This “pushes” her rear hip (and subsequently rear leg/knee) INTO a firmed-up from side, instead of “pulling” the back side with a strong front side reach.

does that make sense?

Ive heard respected coaches say: “its not how far you stride out that is important, but how far you drag out from the rubber”

Very good post!

I would question how much the kick affects the speed, since the ball is already in its way by the time the kick happens. I believe the key is in the stacked posture at time of release.

I really like her push-push. Very powerful and efficient!

I agree with your observation about the stride leg pulling. When doing high skips, if you use your hands and knee correctly, you can feel them pull you higher into the air.

Everything Garcia does, from drive off the rubber, to plant, to brush, to grip and spin, is done so effortlessly and so efficiently it's hard sometimes to even see it.

Reminds me of Graterol, who looks most times like he's throwing a light BP.
