I’m wondering how often your 10u pitchers practice both in weeks before a tournament and if there is no tournament that weekend. Does she always use a catcher or does she pitch to a bownet and target? Who catches her? A teammate or a parent?

My dd currently takes a pitching lesson most weeks and my dd usually catches her or she pitches to a net. She also practices with a catcher on her team at team practice for a short period of time. And my husband may catch her on a non tournament weekend or she will pitch to the net. So around 3 sometimes 4 days per week with the longest time being an hour with the pitching coach.

We have been pitching 4X a week since DD was 10. We count tournaments and pitching lessons as one of our 4. Really no exceptions unless sick.

Really need 4 days per week of work.. even after they become very consistent. At that point your working on speed.
I think someone said you need to throw 2,000 pitches to gain 1 mph in speed.

My other suggestion for a 10U player: Teach her how to play pitch and catch underhanded.

No windup. No glove slapping the leg. Just toss the ball back and forth.

This is really good advice.

When my DD was this age, we pitched Tues, Wed & Thurs. I liked giving her a day off before and after she pitched on weekends. She never pitched pool games so she would never pitch on Friday. Then she would usually throw 150-200 pitches on both Sat & Sun. Rest on Monday.

3-5 per week in 10U depending on if we were playing that weekend or not. Closer to 3 if we did play. I could still catch her in first year 10U so she always had a catcher, either her dad or me. By 2nd year 10U I just couldn't do it anymore so she pitched into a tarp or net a good bit more. She's 2nd year 12U now and the majority of her pitching practice is into a tarp or net. Once we start really playing and practicing again she'll get more time with an actual catcher, either her dad or one of the girls on our team.

This is really crucial advice. After reading this a number of times on DFP, we began to work underhand catch into DD's warmup routine and it has made a huge difference in her accuracy. While her teammates are doing wrist snaps, DD backs up 15 feet and tosses underhand, very gradually adding speed and spin. By the time she moves on to 45's, she's loose and hitting the glove every time.

I also think the trick to this is to move back when you are good but also move forward if you off.

No reason to move back if you are struggling, no reason not to move back forward.

200 pitches for a 10 yo in 1weekend is really tough

I do think that is a lot of pitches. You are not even taking into account how much she pitches in warmup.

DD has been #1 pitcher and pitched way to much, has been who knows what and did not pitch at all. Neither was a great place to be.
