To believe this is to deny all video I have ever seen of a high level pitcher. Very surprised that this is taught by this individual.

Well, disappointing people seems to be a specialty of mine these days. Maybe we are lost in translation somewhere, but IMHO if the hip goes first, then the ball/hand must go around the hips, often pushing the ball "inside" to the pitching arm side of the catcher. Ex: RH pitcher will throw inside to RH hitters. I also think this is the leading cause of bullet spin and bad spin on riseballs.

I think I know where our problem and communication breakdown is coming from. Do I think the hips will be at 45 degrees as the ball passes through? No. But I do believe the hand should go through first. Pitchers who don't do this often WHACK themselves on their side and throw inside. Are we disagreeing about the semantics of being "open" or that the hand passes the hips before closure?

I will explain again

I am not talking about NEVER getting open. When i think GET OPEN ....I think throw from OPEN..I think the hand beats the hip....the hand or release is before the hips snap to a 45.

You have to get your mind off of OPEN and DOES SHE EVER...My post clearly speaks of OPEN at release and the hand ahead of the hips. Please stop bogging down the discussion with your inability to follow along.

Amanda is not fully closed at release she is at a 45 degree angle and she has forcefully snap to that position against a firm front resisting leg!

Amanda is OPEN IN THE AIR if we must! Or at 12 but at plant and as the ball comes down the back side she snaps to a 45 degree angle!

In a nutt shell i dont agree with Hillhouses comments that the release is ahead of the hips!

My picture did not post last time, but I've fixed it. At release, Amanda has clearly closed past 45 degrees, and in my view, is fully closed, and facing the catcher before releasing the ball. Your picture, show Amanda at 45 degrees before her brush even begins. She doesn't "snap to" 45 degrees, but rather passes through 45 degrees, on the way to being basically fully closed at release.

Teach what you want. I simply don't think Amanda's video is an example of what you are describing.

One of my favorite quotes from Javasource is "get the hip into a position to receive the arm". He is specifically talking about getting brush interference which is antithesis to many PCs who teach "clear the hip so you have a passing lane for the hand".

Love those Balswick videos. So much valuable info in them. Also love how he talks about what struggles he faces when giving instruction. I still see a ton of the struggles he’s talking about.

Very surprised you haven't opened a pitching facility with your all knowing. Seems to me that Bill has been very successful for many years with what he teaches.

You can say that all you want ...That's the problem...Is he right because hes been at it forever or he travels the country...Well I trust my eyes. I see what I see and to deny what I said is to deny the facts! You can let his lil name is fastpitch influence you but that's your problem. He wants you pitching sideways and hes WRONG!

With all due respect 6to4to3, I don't think i ever said someone should be pitching sideways. Don't take the exercise that I often have pitchers doing, where they exaggerate the sideways position to combat their very very closed position and create muscle memory changes as me advocating that someone "pitch sideways". IMO, there's a big difference between that phrase "he wants you to pitch sideways" and thinking my hand goes through my hips, not around them. And, what is it with you anyways? You seem to really have an issue with me and it seems to be more than whether or not the hand goes through the hips first.... "you can let his lil name in fastpitch...." I know it's nice and easy to sit behind an anon computer name and say things like that but, seriously, I apologize for ruining your Christmas or whatever I did to you in the past!!

Look at the clip and then tell me whos right.

You're the parent every pitching coach dreads having. The one who doesn't know how much they don't know.

How about you upload a video of your DD with her doing what you're preaching here.
