DD2 just finished her season Friday. Had a pretty good finish taking 3rd in her tourney. She said her arm is little sore on top of her shoulder. Thinks it's from a swing she took in one of the games. Didn't seem to affect her pitching. Her team doesn't start back up until the 2nd week of Sept. I'm thinking of having her do nothing softball related for 1 to 2 weeks. Just rest. No throwing, lifting, hitting. Anybody else here have anything that helped your DD recover after the season?

Rest is always good for any athlete. We try to take a couple weeks between summer and fall ball. And also between fall and spring. Rest and Recovery are crucial for health.

I gave mine 2 full weeks off. Back to tee work and hitting lessons this week. First fall practice on Sunday

My DD's team finished their last tournament on July 14. Since then, she hasn't touched anything softball until this past weekend, and that was just a bucket worth of front toss in our backyard cage. She has continued going to her Monday-evening strength-training session, but otherwise has been taking it easy. This week, she says she's ready to get back to work, and preparing for her team's tryouts on the 18th. As much as letting her body recover, this break has also been about mental recovery.

FYI - yesterday DD and I pitched for the first time in 2 months (after HS ball ended last spring) and she surprisingly did great, no real sign of rust and she said she felt a little stronger, has been hitting the gym fairly hard this summer. To the OP, let her rest for 2 weeks and reevaluate.

We are officially on break for 3 weeks. DD does a bunch on her own while I'm at work. (she is 9) but I don't even talk about softball during breaks......cause me coaching two TB teams (baseball/softball) I have had enough. Just go swim!

If she wants to rest, let her rest. If she wants to keep working, let her do that too. In other words, let her dictate what goes on. My DD hasn't had a tournament for a month and won't play another one for another few weeks but her team has still had practice and she still works with me on the side. We did have a 5 day break last week as we went on a family road trip (although my 3 YO DS forced me to bring his bat and wiffle balls so Dad wasn't totally free of BP duty..)

While I agree that you need to let kids be kids, they are awake for 12 to 14 hours a day in the summer. Hitting/fielding/throwing for 30 minutes gives them another 13.5 hours to play on their cell phones

Now if she is really injured than that is a different story and you may want to mandate a rest.

Edit: I should add that my DD is 8 (9 in a month) and her 10U team played about twice a month so probably not as intense of a Spring/Summer season as many of your
DDs.

DD team is on hiatus after finishing 3rd at her regions Nationals. Pretty much everyone is burnt out. So she is off for 3 weeks. This week has a pitching lesson and last week did tryouts. This past weekend was odd, the whole family didn't know what to do! I did look at my lawn...what a mess.
