DD hit 59 a few times today at Pennsbury... she's a 2021.
I was surprised that there were not more mid 60's.. 3-4 over 60.. that's it.
DD's teammate was at 62 (2021). Saw a couple of 64's but not many over 60.
I was surprised...expected more speed?

Hemet OnDeck recap said 12 of 22 pitchers were 60 or over. 65 was tops. A 2021 hit 62 and I believe a 2023 did too. 3 2021's were 60 or over. 60 is a good milestone.

Thanks!
I guess I expected more.. But since most 2019's and some 2020's who throw hard are already committed it makes sense that we didn't see a larger group of 64+

60 with consistency is a huge speed number. Hitting it on occasion is far easier. There's not a lot of pitchers that can do it

This is true, but is not because they are not capable of greater speed. With proper mechanics any kid of average stature is capable of working in the low to mid 60's.

Speeds always drop for some reason when a parent isn't holding the gun.

You have been saying this for years and I have been telling DD to trust you. At 13 she couldn't break 52.. Then at 14 she was stuck at 55. Now she is touching 60 and cruzing at 58-59. DD is smallish at 5' 7" and 130lbs. I now am a beliver and think she can work at 63-64 when she is a senior in HS (3 years from now).
Thank you!

It totally is possible! My kid was one of the ones who did hit over 60 at Pennsbury that day and the last time she was officially clocked at a camp was a year ago where she hit 56 as her top speed at 14. With dd we’ve done a slow and steady approach. Just focusing on the mechanics since we switched pitching coaches back when she was 13. She’s slightly taller than your dd but weighs a few pounds less, so lanky. When her PC told me she’d be hitting 60+ this year I thought no way. Sure enough 2 weeks before Pennsbury he said she’s hitting 60 now consistently. Not sure how he knew because he does not use a radar at all. Sure enough he was right. She was also clocked during the tourney by a few college coaches - hit it again. Now if she can only gain a few pounds I think she could get a little bit more. She’s been doing strength and agility twice per week since February and I think it’s really helped her a lot. Her trainer focuses on legs and core with her; little bit of arms and lots of cardio mixed in.

Your dd is right there. It will happen very soon!
