I am seeing alot of batters all the way up in the box. This takes away some of the movment on DD pitch because they are in front of the plate. If she throws a drop that is low on batter it is in the dirt for catcher and will never be called for strike. This holds true for other pitches as well. Any advice?? Thank you

She should learn to throw her best vertical movement pitch at two or three levels.

I feel the problem may also be the umpires at the high school level. We get better calls in travel. The girls stand way up in the box and this take away from how effective some pitches can be i feel. Take a curve for instance if it is breaking away from a batter to catch the ouside corner, it would be down the middle before the plate. So if you want a drop at.the knees for a strike its crossing them at the front of the box at their hip.

Front of the plate = high and tight heat, about elbow level, mixed in with a healthy dose of change up.

I don’t always expect a good drop ball to be a called strike. It’s one I use to get them to swing at (team or Batter has to be swinging at pitches in order to call it).

Yep...They are there for a reason and the reason is usually adjusting to the speed of the pitch and what they are used to hitting. I think moving the batter up in the box is a mistake but what do I know.

We have batters move up in the box for the intent of taking away some of the break.

Well if you look at the majority of successful hitters and that's what they are doing then carry on I suppose. If it works, why change it...

My daughter has always stood at the front of the plate but she is just 12u so there isn't a ton of break from 40 ft. That is where she is comfortable. I saw girls last year in CWS move up in the box against P.Parker and I couldn't believe it.
