I have been lurking and reading for about a year. My 10 year old daughter pitched for her Rec team last year. She struggled throwing strikes consistently. I knew there had to be a better way. I starting searching and found this site.
So we started changing from HE to IR last July. She hated me. Couldn’t do this “new” pitching style. After about a month pitching 2-3 times a week she started getting the hang of it. Then football season started for me and we slowed down to maybe once a week until late February.
I could see small improvements but she didn’t notice. Once March came around we started working hard. Pitching 3-4 times per week.
Now our season has started. Our team is 3-0. She has pitched 6 innings in the 3 games. 18 strikeouts. 3 walks. Throwing much faster (no clue how fast). A total of 88 pitches. She had some troubles tonight with a wet ball (spring rain) but still pitched lights out. 3 innings 9 strikeouts and 2 walks. Only 2 foul balls in the three games we have played.
She is throwing a decent change up and we are working on hitting corners now with the fastball. I have had 3 travel coaches ask us to join their team in the last week.
I understand the batters that she is facing isn’t great but I am so proud of her and her hard work.
I wanted to say thank you to all of the posters here. I have learned so much. It has helped my daughter so much. We have a long way to go but I know we are heading in the right direction.

Lot easier to change styles when 10 vs when they're 14. Keep focusing on all mechanics including IR. Always room for improvement.

Thanks for sharing. In your opinion, what drills or cues worked best to help her transition to IR?

Cues - anything to remind her to ‘whip’. Personal favorite- whip to the mitt. DDs accuracy became deadly when she really focused on and understood that concept.

Relax and let the release happen. Don’t force it. She still tries to force a snap once in a while.
We also still run into some pitches where she rotates her hips and bangs the ball into her leg.
Lots of stand tall. Pogo stick with the front leg.
Working on posture was huge for both accuracy and speed.
