DD is very effective in the first few innings and then she starts to lose velocity and is less accurate. She'll start the game around 56-58 and then go down to 52-53 by the 4th inning. I'm looking for the best way for her to improve on this, should she run, pitch more, both? I will admit that we only practice for about 30-45 minutes 3-4 times a week so I'm thinking we should do our normal routine and then she should go throw into a tarp for another 15-20 minutes, just let it rip.

She normally starts the first and third game on Saturday and then the first game on Sunday. Looking for some good advice from people who have been through it. She's an '04.

DD used to try strike out everyone, she settled down to you are not get a clean hit. She throws less strikes then any pitcher but does not walk anyone.

3 pitch innings are great, high 5s all around.

Sprints 3-4 times a week. Hardcore sprints. My DD hated/hates it but come the 7th inning she's right there with her speed. Only had one 8 inning game this season and she dominated in the late innings. Hard work but pays off.

I am dealing with the same thing with one of my pitchers. She also starts throwing down the middle and gets tee'd off on. We got away from doing my least favorite drill (as a pitcher), but my most favorite as a coach! We call it the sprint drill.

Pitcher starts on the mound, pitches to catcher, sprints to the catcher (catcher does not throw ball back), grab ball from catcher, sprint back to the mound, and immediately throw again (after one deep cleansing breath). For this particular pitcher, I have her do 5 strikes in a row, hitting her spot. We go back and forth between outside low and inside low. If she misses her spot, she starts over again.

In college, I would have to do 16 in a row going around the world. Obviously you have to work up to this. Maybe start with just 3 strikes in general in a row. The first time they do this drill, I like to have them do as many as possible in a row. Whatever they get, I add one and it sets the goal for the drill.

This really is a great drill and I hope it helps your pitcher! I will be looking on this post for more ways to keep my pitchers in the best pitching shape.

We do a workout called super 7. It’s 7 different types of squats, 30 seconds of reps and 30 seconds of rest. We also do a similar Lunge workout. It’s quick. Takes 10-15 minutes at the end of practice
