Daughter got warn out this weekend. How much pitching during the week do you have your DD do to be prepared for a tourney? Our team has 2 pitchers. 1 got flu on Sunday. My DD was completely spent in final game. Daughters push leg was sore causing a very bad drop in velocity.

Do you have a recovery protocol for your DD after a long weekend?

My DD seems fine most of the time but I need a recovery protocol for myself. The day after I am completely useless and all I did was watch.

The softball hangover, lol!

DD threw 300 plus pitches this weekend. Don’t have the tally from Sunday.

When to start is in the off season. A lot of pitchers will only go out and practice/work for 30 minutes because that is how long their lessons are. What you need to do is slowly lengthen your DD's workouts to the point she can throw for an hour, taking a couple breaks, and still have good velocity & control of her pitches, while not feeling overly fatigued. Move her "wall" so she can perform longer. By pushing her physically she'll experience what it's like to have to pitch when she is starting to feel tired and can learn what she needs to do to perform longer. Also, being able to recognize when there is no more left in the tank and can let the coaches know.

During the week when in season she still needs to go out a couple of times to keep the endurance up after a recovery day. Give her Monday off and see how she feels on Tuesday. If she is in pitching shape she should be able to go on Tuesday and Thursday. Most Friday games do not start until the evening. Again, each player is different with regards to their recovery time.

My DD was put in the same situation as yours once. 3 pitchers. One sick, the other hurt on Saturday. She had to pitch 27 innings in one day. At the end of the day she was still throwing strong. She did fall asleep in the car before we hit the expressway on the way home.

Pitchers need to be the very best conditioned athletes on the field. If you DD is not running 3-4 times a week, sprints and distance spilt up then she will struggle late in games. Think about it.. Hitters are not more fatigued in the 7th then they are in the 1st.. But your DD has thrown 100+ pitches by the 7th inning. RUN!!!
