Dd is 15 , has very limited pitching experience. She takes a long time to get warmed up to where she's accurate. Just curious if she could be more efficient with her warm ups or if it is just what it is and it should get better with more experience. What are your dds warm up routines ?

Thanks Terry Howard

We have had pitchers that take forever to warm up, I think they are trying to change things. Close to pitching lesson.

You are what you are, take your lumps or wipe them out.

She is not going to change anything warming up for 10 more minutes.

If she is allowed to DD throws about 20 pitches and done.

I see a huge disparity in pitching warm-up routines as I watch other teams and then our girls. My daughter does a fairly quick warm-up, our #1 wants to warm-up for an hour it seems. I think it all depends on the pitcher. I try to get my 11u daughter to go through and warm up all of her pitches (fb, cu, drop, screw) and then I have the catcher set up for inside/outside etc. I then have her play a game and the catcher calls different pitches, the plate doesn't matter it is about hitting close to the catchers glove.

Why do things in warm ups that you don't do in a game? Warm up by pitching, hopefully she's not (and you're not) under the spell of "wrist flips" etc. as a warm up rountine. If so, good luck. You team will be down 7 runs by the time she's ready. In a lesson, some drills are fine as a learning mechanism. But in a game, she needs to pitch and get ready. If it takes longer or she thinks she needs to do all kinds of drills, it's probably in her head. KEEP IT SIMPLE.

It really varies from pitcher to pitcher. I would say most pitchers warmup longer than they need too. If you are pitching in one game (high school, middle school, etc.) taking a little longer to warm up is fine. If you are playing multiple games in a day or weekend the number of pitches that you throw in warmups will add up quick.

1. Get the body warm (break a sweat).
2. Figure out which pitches are working and which ones aren't (ask the catcher not the pitcher).
3. If it takes a long time to warm-up your 6 different pitches you are doing it wrong.

I’ll do catch, wrist exercise and k throw with dd. She’ll
get a little nervous if she’s not throwing good . I tell her
We’re not doing pitching practice and throw two more
Pitches to end it. When the game starts and everyone’s
watching she always wakes right up.

Have a specific and consistent routine.
After a full dynamic stretch, run, and overhand throw.
1. Lock it in drill (focus on release point ''brush" and full body resistance)
2. K drills (full body resistance with a smooth whip) Also use this time to work on spins and change ups
3. full circle (full body resistance with a violent whip)
4. walk in
5. jump starts
6. 2 steps
7. progressive tong toss (work out, then back in)
8. mound up. (figure out what pitches she really feels good about today)
Have a game plan on what you'll call based on her warm up and the batters tells. Go get the W

You mentioned accuracy in your post, so I assume that you are asking about "pitching specific" warmups, like mentioned above "lock it in, k-drill,etc". You may already know this, but just as a reminder, make sure your girl is "warming up to throw", not "throwing to warmup" We do specific arm and body workouts before we ever throw. (Mostly based off Tom House's warmups as my son has taken lessons through his people and they work for anyone throwing). So important

Ok have some experience in this.

If she needs to take a long time, like up to half hour prior to game. LET HER BE!!! Its a mental thing. IF she is winning games and SHES comfortable. LET HER BE!! My dd needs long warm ups. It frustrating to wait, but when she doesn't warm up properly or methodically it takes two innings at least before she starts throwing consistently . Just let her be.
