I guess it depends if you define a pitch based or the release or the resulting spin. Of course the kids in 10U with 6 pitches define a pitch based on their intent! :) Keep up the good work. The CU will be a deal breaker in the near future.

Very true! Sorry, if it came across wrong. I was typing on my phone and it wasn't working with me. The pitch does look like a drop curve but she has been throwing the flip for awhile and the PC told me the lesson before that he was going to mess with it. The only thing he changed was to finish around her front hip. 1/2 already had some side spin and when he told her that all of them running like crazy. Thanks again.

Don't flip. That produces back spin. Keep the thumb to the hip as if you're about to shake hands then drop the thumb downward at the moment of release. This will cut 1/3 of the speed off with a massive amount of spin. This one is the dirtiest. Lol. It's filthy!
I think that's close to what she is doing on accident.

My DD throws something similar to this and her pc calls it a circle change. She has great control of it and it has been called nasty. Has movement and comes in around 35-37. I wonder if what you are describing is the same as what she is throwing.

I may be getting a little away from the OP's question but does anyone have any close up video of Lisa Fernandez and her change up? I saw it a couple years ago on video have been trying to figure it out ever since but can't get close enough (or clear enough) video. It is NASTY nonetheless!

Take a look at roughly 37 secs in.

DD throws a flip change that she gets on the side a little and it runs down and away. PC started working on turning her hand around her front hip and making it really run. Its nasty but not ready yet. Does this pitch have a name?

This is exactly how I throw mine in games. The more flip, the more speed reduced. The more turn over, the faster it'll go but it stays lower. The trick is the find the balance.

Several years ago a guy tried to make a video acting as if he invented this pitch calling it the triple pitch or something, he sent me a copy asking me to endorse it. I explained to him that he didn't invent anything new here, I'd been doing that all along. His video had some of the most ridiculous content I'd ever heard.

It's a tough change to master but when she gets it, it's great. And almost impossible to pick, just hold it like any other pitch since the flip and turn do the work.

That describes how my DD throws her CU and thought it was called a backhand change. A lot more spin, flatter than flip, and runs a little.

DD has gone through flip, horseshoe, and circle. She's settled in with circle and we actually just focused on that w/ her PC last week after about 3 months of really working on the curve. She worked on low in the zone and tailing down and away at the end. I can't wait to see it in a game, it almost looked like a combo of a change up and a drop ball. At the lesson, anyway, it was one nasty pitch. I love change ups! When a pitcher is on with hers it's really fun to watch the batters try to hit it.

Jake threw a flip at SC that was like a box of chocolates, never knew what you would get. But when the planets aligned and it was on it was truly nasty. :)
There's no denying Jakes success, And I realize your "box of chocolates" reference was a joke. However, the way I teach a change up is more like a single Hersey bar rather than a whole box of chocolates... You'll always know what you're getting, how big, and how smooth the texture, etc.... I want complete controllability of pitches with as little variables as possible. I want the ball low in the zone, and spinning fast to further deceive the eyes. This is just my way of saying that there's more than one way to skin a cat!
