My DD is 14 Years old and people have told me to my face that I lie about my daughters pitching speed. Honestly I don't care, I know what my kid pitches and have clocked her with a ball coach Radar. I hear them are pretty accurate. But you should see some of the faces I get when I tell people she is throwing 54 at 14 years old. It's almost comical. I don't care if she throws 45 or 75...if she is getting outs then I am happy.

In So Cal 14U TB, 54 is generally considered "decent", but not exceptional. 54 with good control and a reliable change-up will be effective against most teams. Best pitcher we saw this year was topping out at 58-59 with very good control on 3 pitches. She destroyed us...twice. Fastest pitcher we saw was 60-61, but all she had was speed. She came in as a reliever in a close game. We hit her hard and won the game.

Well, a kid won the fastest pitcher competition in a Midwest Nationals @ 57mph. I followed because she's joining DD team next year and between them they are going to do some damage.

She is playing up in the 16u division and did quite well. I have to admit her best pitch is her change up. We work very hard on being able to change speeds and throw that change up for a strike when needed. She also has a nice off speed curve she has been working on. I believe it's time she starts throwing it in a game as she hits her spot 2 out of 3 times. She usually produces a lot of weak hit balls to 3rd base.

DD is on a second year 14u A team. Good team that plays very good competition. We're lucky we have 3 pitchers who all work in the very high 50's. And can all hit 60-61. Our fastest hits 62 pretty consistently. This is in the North East

I have seen a lot of 12U games and the last two years. I will admit not the top tournaments but have only seen two over 55. PC has a 13 year old that has hit 65. Has D1 offers but I have never seen her.

Here at PGF. Some buzz from one field yesterday about a girl throwing 60. A few pocket radars out, and one pitch did hit 60 during the 20 minutes I was there. They lost, first bracket game, won a losers bracket game then lost. No idea how much she pitched in total. So 1-2 and done. Sure she hit 60, but hitters were not struggling when I was watching. No movement. Change was erratic. Location was hard to tell from where I was. Pure gas can work in 10u, but in 12u it's gotta be location and movement to grow as a pitcher.

Middle School tournament that was at a college field with pitching speeds posted on the scoreboard. Two pocket radar guns had the same speed every pitch they checked. The college coaches said the scoreboard was dead on. Seemed to be correct. Good teams.

13 year old hit 56 a couple of times. 52-54 most of the game. Good pitcher. Curve, drop, rise, and good location.
14 or 15 year old (plays 14u)- 54 early and 52 late. Mostly fastballs and strikes.
15 year old 49 and 50. Strikes
12 year old 55 a couple of times. 52-53 most of the game. Good pitcher. Change, curve, drop, and good location.
12 year old 52 several pitches. Good pitcher. Screwball and curve ball mostly and good location
Two more pitchers 49-50 not sure of age.

Don't get me started...

I have over 45 students...all throw I\R

Top end by age:
7YO: 34
8YO: 35
9YO: 39
10U: 48
11u: 47 (note move to 12" ball)
12U: 54 (I have 2 that throw this)
13U: 56
14U: 63 (LSU commit at my place throws 65 but she is Java's not mine)

Stop lying people...

If you think your kid is throwing "X" go rent a cage, set the machine at "X" and put yourself behind the plate 5' closer than her normal pitching distance...

RIP Chris..... Love (and miss) this guy's honesty

All these girls play TB and are on the best teams in our small area. Thought it was interesting to see every pitch clocked during a game. Change up speeds varied a lot. FB-55, change 42 FB- 56, change 33 All the others were not great and very slow.

I was watching some 11 year old travel baseball games at the park a few days ago.

No one cared much about the speed of the pitchers. And honestly, it looked no faster than our girls. However, we all know pitching speed in baseball is huge and certainly tracked closely and what can help players make it to D1 and the bigs.

It sometimes seems we at fastpitch are more obsessed by it than baseball players & parents. I try to not care, but find myself thinking "Ooh, that was a fast one. Wish I clocked it."

Yep. Speed isn't the total answer. It helps but not the end all. I had never seen ever pitch recorded before during a game. It was neat to see pitch after pitch.
