Watching on ESPN, it is obvious she hops at least 3-4 inches up in the air. These pitchers need to be called out on this!!!

What I have a Issue with is they ignore it then come tournament they care sometimes. It seems so arbitrary .

(Not purposely but I taught DD to pitch illegally. We unwound it but she was in a game where she was under a ton of stress, came back.)

My daughter refuses the learn the incorrect way. I’m proud of her for that, but it’s frustrating watching people willingly learn to do it knowing it will rarely get called and playing ahead of her. I know in the end she is doing the right thing.

I agree that she leaps.

I can't see it in real time but when I go frame-by-frame, I can definitely see it. She does not replant. Rightly or wrongly, I associate "crow-hop" with "replant".

I don't have a strong opinion as to whether the ump should call this particular violation in this particular game.

But this is orders of magnitude less of an advantage than a massive leap-then-replant 4 feet closer to the plate gives pitchers like Barnhill and her ilk.

I'm not a traffic enforcement officer. If I was, I'd more likely to cite the driver going 60 in a school zone while school is getting out than the driver going 60 on the highway where the speed limit is 55.

I get that it isn’t a replant, but by just by not having to drag your foot and being able to jump an extra foot, the pitcher can generate a few mph more speed, and the closer you are to the batter, the less reaction time the batter has. If they can see part of a foot out of the box on a slap, umpires should be able to see this.

I agree with you that the umps should call her leap if they see it.

I disagree with your assertion that she gains an extra foot and a few mph more speed with her leap. I believe that if the umps call it, she would drag her toe with little-to-no drop in performance. I expect she's been taught to drag her foot lightly and she's gotten lax and leaps a little.

I don't believe that a replanter could make the same adjustment without losing speed and release distance from the plate.

I have had my daughter skip the toe drag on purpose to see the results. She can easily jump out a foot further and still release the hips. I’m assuming the lack of resistance is allowing a boost in speed, but she can definitely throw harder by 3-5 mph. I know girls who are being taught this for just this reason. For those who say just have her pitch the illegal way, she won’t get caught, I propose I could probably just as easily claim an extra thousand dollars on my taxes and not get caught, I say wrong is wrong.
