I think I'm seeing a forced bend in the arm. Think long and loose for a few throws and see if any of those have any more pop. I like the arm action from the clip you took 5 years ago (other than the lack of brush...)

What caused her hip strain?

It was her drive leg (left). Not sure she did anything in particular. Just over use probably. She does drag the entire side of that foot too much for my liking and never really gets the laces pointed to the catcher. Maybe that foot drag is what caused the strain even. It does appear that she gets some hip snap based on the good brush but not sure on that. I think she is super flexible and able to snap the hip without the back foot following suit but looking for opinions on that statement.

End of last season DD lost about 3 mph on her fastball. She was battling a hip strain so we let her rest a couple months. She's feeling better but can't get her speed back up. Hoping to get some insight. Thanks for any help.

Wow, Marianna. My DD, Jake went to Chipola. Have a 2018 RHP headed there next season. :)

Everything looks slow, no explosion. Feet, legs, and arms need to get moving. Maybe favoring the hip??? I would get her doing some serious log toss, and get her away from the catcher and throwing into a tarp. She needs to explode and bring it. If you want to throw hard you have to get out and throw hard.

Next time Chipola has a clinic she should attend. Jake will probably be there and Mr. is damn good. Spend some time with them.

Oh yeah! We are huge chipola fans and watched Jake many a time in the circle there. The coaches are fantastic. They are just so busy right now with their season they don't have time to work with her. We are trying to make a run at state this year so can't wait that long. Lol. I'll have her work on exploding more but I'm not sure about the drive being non existant. If you look at where here back foot is when her front foot lands it seems like quite a good distance. In the past we have always struggled with over striding. Keep all the comments coming and looking forward to seeing your younger daughter at Chipola next year. I have another coming up that's 11 that's also a lefty.

I wouldn't go as far as saying her leg-drive is non-existent. Rather, she has a very stride-dominant leg-drive. That is, that stride foot gets fully extended well before her thrusting is finished. Work to get a thrust-dominant leg-drive. That would be a leg-drive where the kick forward of ther stride foot past her stride knee isn't until the thrust of the left leg is very nearly fully spent. Sure, the stride knee needs to kick forward fairly quickly, but that's not true with the stride foot, at least not how quickly she does it.

Also, I agree fully with Ken--her arm is much too stiff. I believe at least some of it is because she's trying to lead with her elbow out in front starting around 9:00. I'd say let's not focus so excessively on bending the arm. Get the feeling of a loose noodle arm-whip first... One where she's pulling the ball loosely down the back side and into release.
