I've shown her clips like the one Shaker has provided etc. and she just can't seem to figure it out. She's a pretty smart kid and really takes coaching well....I just am not sure what to do/tell her to do to help her. Just a dumb bucket dad who has benefited from some really kind people on this board.

We really appreciate the feedback!

Josh...

Take the ball out of her hand for a minute.

Train the movement pattern without throwing a pitch...you can always "plug" the pitch in after she "gets" the movement.

For example...have her do some standing broad jumps

(BTW...this guy is LATE in getting his arms to 3 o'clock with FULL extension of the legs)

When she's doing these, have her focus on getting her legs FULLY EXTENDED BEFORE her arms get to shoulder height

Train the MOVEMENT PATTERN.

The upper\lower body timing WILL be off...if you try and have her pitch before ingraining some semblance of the pattern, she'll throw it "sideways"

Some other moves I use with my girls to help the patterns along:

Train the movement pattern!!!

This particular movement pattern has a timing element which makes it more difficult.

Your DD is doing real well...keep it positive and fun...CP

We experimented with this and it is a very awkward feeling like you are jumping without using momentum from the arm swing and its hard to get a smooth rhythm. DD was not able to master it in the short time we worked on it. The drill makes sense to me though because I have always felt that DDs legs need a head start to keep timing with her arm speed. I think some of the detach at 300 is lower body strength and quickness but there is also an element of timing that this drill is targeting. Do you have video of it being done the correct way that you could share?

The ABC video I posted above shows how high skips demonstrate a mechanic that translates more closely to the pitching drive.

I like how Ueno gets to full drive leg extension by 4 o'clock:

Matt,

This IS awkward...

Wait until you try getting her left knee "up and out" LOL

That's why the drills Ken posted are so important to learn WITHOUT a ball in her hand.

The ball...which in their mind equates to the pitch...can become a "grenade" because they will struggle to throw strikes at first because you are changing her timing\body sequence. Don't let the ball inhibit the development of the movement pattern. By attempting to get her out by 3 o'clock there are movements that become longer and movements that become shorter...in any event the timing changes.

I just got home from clinic...spent 60 minutes with a relatively new 14U hello elbow convert project on this exact thing...she felt rushed and uncomfortable...was pissing and moaning about how sh##### she was doing. She never gave up and we did have some breakthroughs...

We got a few towards the end that were "rock, drive...zipBANG"

This might take another 2 months with this 14U girl...she left with home work (no different than what is presented here)...it's a marathon...not a sprint...enjoy...CP
