Spot on by sluggers. I clearly remember when DD was first starting out and dabbling in pitching. I of course knew nothing about softball, never being around it, so did not know any better. I remember hearing the instructors giving cues over and over....."open those hips" "close those hips hard at release" "follow through with that elbow" Etc.

Not too shabby for her age and level...
If I were to work with her the 2 glaring mechanical issues that I'd address first are...
1. posture through resistance. that forward lean is bad. have her imagine her body is a solid piece of steel from her ankle to her chin from 9:00 into release... firm body, loose and whippy arm
2. lack of adduction. notice how her back leg fails to pull inward with her arms? And her glove arm flails away and pulls her shoulders open?
In the same way a stick of dynamite explodes outwardly... she needs to explode inwardly. Her limbs should all pull into her center, violently. Arms and legs working together!

Just a gif to add to Coaches points.

Just to visual to add to Coaches points;

Shaker - Just had to comment on the pic you put up....I just started using Hudl Technique yestrday, haven't had a chance to explore it much yet but it seems pretty decent. How's your experience with it been so far? Seems better than just the iPhone slo-mo....

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread!

I've found it to be very useful. Best free app I've found for video.

Nice GIF Shaker....

Something else I'd add to her assessment is her drive energy seems to be more upward than outward... this is a major factor in the backward pointed drag toe... she's crow hopping / replanting a bit... focus her drive energy more towards the catcher and not the sky, Shaker mentioned a 2nd H, and he's right, its nice. But I'd want to see more of an extended pivot leg at 3:00... really FEEL the glutes and hamstring extend as she shoves her ball and glove towards the catcher. These few tweeks will have her showing gains in no time. Keep up the good work...remember to keep it fun, and enjoy the ride. Time spent with her is priceless. Before you know it she'll be off in college and you'll be on her back burner (tear):(

Thanks for the replies. We will definitely start working on those things. What cues have you used to help with the flailing glove arm?

If she utilizes the glove shove as described, that will fix the bulk of the glove side. Also pay attention to the adduction. The arm are pulling down and inward even and equally, both palms are oriented between 3rd base and the sky, with loose bent elbows.

In a perfect world you find pitching coach and/or TB coach who teaches IR, but if your options are limited just tell your DD to nod approvingly while getting instruction from the coach, then practice IR during bucket time. The irony is the number of high level former pitchers who teach HE, but actually threw IR without realizing it (Jenny Finch).
