Hi all!

11 yo daughter just moved up to 12U this season and had her first tournament on Saturday. All in all she did well pitching 2 games winning 1 and losing one. Gave up 5 runs but none were earned. Struck out 8 and walked 4. She threw 91 strikes out of 135 pitches. I clocked her at 48 - 49 mph which is about 2 mph slower than last season with the smaller ball. In the middle of last year she went from whipping the ball to pushing it without anyone really noticing until we looked at some vids of her motion. Turned her back over and got back to a more I/R form and her speed increased to over 50 (11" ball still). I think she still struggles a bit with true I/R whip motion and I think she would benefit from some focused drills or w/e is used to make this become second nature.

We played against a girl who I clocked at 56 mph and although I know speed isn't the be all end all, I do know that more speed along with her movement on her drop and her change up would make her a better pitcher so why not figure out how to get it up!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hard to beat this drill...

The setup is everything. Hand behind the ball at 12, good posture, keep the hand under the ball at 9, throw.

Sluggers video is great. However, be sure to use both arms and not just one like in the demonstration. She is only showing IR and fails to show adduction

Coach James makes a good point.

Adduction involves bringing the left arm down forcefully to her left side, with the glove *LIGHTLY* slapping the outside of her left thigh.

IMHO, your DD should practice the drill without adduction until she gets it (probably 10 times or so), and then add in the adduction.

When you add the adduction, make sure she keeps her head and torso over her lower body. She might try to lean forward.

Video is key to see whats happening or not. Whip is part of the chain. Miss a link and whip will be affected. Mechanics, timing, resistance are all important. Got video?
