Squat like a catcher. It might be tough the first few times but you will get used to it.

In theory, that's a great idea. However, I have spent many years punishing these knees and adding all this beautiful weight. Cant take it and pretty sure i cant get out of the way of the low pitch if i'm squatting. At least i can fall off the bucket to get out of the way!!

I have a padded coaches bucket that I use for outside. This has definitely seen better days... I also purchased a painters bucket from Lowe's (also have them at Home Depot) for $3. I fill this bucket with balls and take it to the indoor cages for hitting. I do my best to not use a bucket when I am catching for DD. I think it is good exercise for me to squat. But my age is starting to catch up to me and I find myself using the bucket once in a while.

Items to include in the indoor bucket:
-roll of non-stick duct tape
-Pocket Radar
-throw down home plate
-3/8" thick pitching plate (fits perfectly inside the wall of the bucket)
-2-3 softies with various stripes
-Worth Liberty Advanced catchers mitt.
-notepad with pen
-Sharpie
-cup

If you haven't already, a hockey-style catcher's mask and shin guards are worth EVERY cent. There is no shame in protecting your shins and teeth!

Just put a bag together, but will have to convert to the bucket.
I got the striped throw down home plate.
a bushnell (cheap) radar gun. Still not sold on it being accurate, but a friend wasn't using his anymore, so i have it.
Vinci jvc-pc mitt
balls with stripes, no softies yet
need the pitching plate
14" training ball (DD hates it, but pitching coach has her working on changeup with it)

will work on the rest

I use stall mat found at the local farm supply outfit. It usually comes on big rolls. I bought a couple feet then cut out a few 6x24" pieces. They should also carry 3/4" mat that can be cut for outside plates. Drill at least a couple holes in these to spike them down.

Milk crates work well as a seat and will hold your bucket in place while in the truck as you travel.

had not thought about that. use the milk crates with my propane tanks for the grills, but hadn't thought about using them with a bucket. May see how that works as well.

Appreciate all the replies. Slow at work today, so needed some conversation and entertainment. Thanks

This is what I use. I like the height for giving low targets. The one I started with was about 10 years old to begin with, and it took about 3 years of missed drop balls before I had to replace that one. It was about $10 at Lowes.Rubbermaid_Step_Stool.jpg

I know you said 2 or 3 softies with various stripes, what about a spinner? We have a new PC who is very adamant about using a spinner! I know striped balls work, but a spinner don't lie! They sure can be a pain though! We've always used striped balls and avoided the spinner like the plague but I'm finally coming around and seeing the benefits of using one.
