I find it funny that Rich B has been watching my daughter play softball since she was 9, meaning you must be from Indiana or local Indianapolis. Fact is my daughter has not played local for 2 years (she was a 2nd year 10 playing on 1st year 12U team) and is currently with Beverly Bandits 14U Harkness. Instead of hiding behind a screen and belittling my daughter I would welcome your team to play us in a tournament. If you are basing this off of prior years then unfortunately you take away from a players ability to improve as a player. She is not the same player in the spring as she was in the fall year in and year out because she sets high goals and has a work ethic unmatched to most her age. In 10U she was clocked at 60 winning PGF Nationals with TN Mojo, 12U finished last year topping out at 63 from 40 feet (as a 1st 12u) finishing 3rd at PGF and this year at 14U her game speed is 62-64 and has hit 66 in practice several times! Her goal for PGF in August of 2018 is 66 which she is already hitting in her pitching lessons. I will give you some facts to argue with! We finished our fall season in California this November. She pitched in front of 40 plus D1 coaches with probably 10 coaches clocking her at 64. (Florida, Oklahoma, Aurburn, Oregon, Washington, Missouri, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Arizona State, Baylor, to name a few) That game was against a top rated OC Batebuster team she finished with a no hit shut-out with 13 of 15 being strikeouts. The spin rate is from Florida and Missouri argue with them if you think they are off! She is with one of the best pitching instructors in the country as well as an overall Tincher Pitching Group and we monitor how much during the year she throws with Manditory shut downs 2 times a year. One month right after Nationals each year and one month in the winter -meaning absolutely no softball for 2 months. If you want to discuss her committment to verbal as a 7th grader that is your opinion and I welcome that with no response but don't shame and belittle her when you know nothing of her accomplishments other than a jealous dad or mom sitting behind a computer screen! She is a little girl just like every other player that takes the field and will make mistakes including giving up home runs and walks but what seperates her from the rest is she is not afraid of making a mistake and knows how to learn from it and become a better player and pitcher.

I say congrats to her! I love seeing hard work pay off. Let’s face it, some girls are blessed with great mechanics and big work ethics early and they use that to build on. It sounds like she’s had great coaches and advisors giving her good info. I can’t wait to see her take the field in college. My DD seems to be a late bloomer. She’s 14 and just hit a top speed of 62. She’s never been the biggest kid but always could hold her own due to her movement pitches. Last year she grew 4 inches in 8 months (all legs). She’s added 5 mph in that period of time. She game pitches in the 57-59 range and that little extra speed has made all the movement pitches even better. We monitor spin rates every couple of months and she’s on the high end of those but not to the 30’s yet. We take 2 months a year off as well just to let her be a kid and to give me a break. I say all that to say that hard work shows up in different ways. I applaud the young ladies who are willing to give up a normal life for a goal.

Dang Basketball seems to hurt more kids that any other sport for girls. Good thing I guess is having 5 years to rehabilitate. :)

GROTHR01,
Gongrats to your daughter. May I ask why Tincher instructors and students are so overly concerned with radar guns. I question how reliable they really are. Our local Tincher instructor puts a gun on her kids at every lesson. As a coach some numbers reported back to me are absurd. Seems like your also very aware of your daughters numbers and goals. My daughter is a traditional pitcher and rarely sees a gun. She does get some feedback from camps, clinics, and tournaments so we do have an idea of where she is at. Thanks and cant wait to see your daughter on the SEC network!

Wukus,
Keagan went to her top 5 schools and a couple of college camps including Florida, Oklahoma, Aurburn, Missouri, Notre Dame and Alabama and every one of them clocked her with a blue dot pocket radar! Both major showcases this fall St. Louis (20 coaches) and California (45) all clocked her with Blue dot pocket radars. So to answer your question this is what my wife, which is tincher Indianapolis instructor and other Tincher Instructors use. My question to you is what do you use to measure progress and what do you use to set goals long and short term? What most do not take into consideration is not all girls can throw in a game what they throw in practice, so you hear numbers that may be off. Too many people discount speed and for those that can move the ball and have speed they are tougher to hit as stated by gophert in above post. For Keagan she has set goals speed goals and there is no way to get there without clocking her on ocassion and in games. At some point they will be clocked all the time and I had 2 college coaches tell me it is silly for those that do not know their speeds and measure them on regular basis. Two reasons students seek out my wife and or a Tincher Pitching instructor, 1) to fix or eliminate and injury caused by poor mechanics and 2) increase speed - girls with full ride D1 offers all the way to juniors in high school with no offers to continue their careers! To try out for the U.S. Olympic team you have to throw atleast 3 pitches at a certain speed, so in my opinion someone has decided speed is important. Ironically, Tincher instructors do not focus on spin rate and when most are measured at camps they have the highest spin rates, so why not have both speed and movement? Hopefully this helps.

Interesting that command was never mentioned. You will find that pitching in the SEC will provide instant enlightenment and a different perspective on what is truly important. Enjoy the journey.

I've seen her pitch up close multiple times last year. She has command of her pitches. So long as she keeps the fire inside and the working she will be successful throughout her career.

There is much more to it than having desire and putting in the work. Unfortunately the biggest obstacle to college success is often found within the family tree. Will that be the case here? Hopefully not, but much can happen over the next - 6 years. Only time will tell. While I am sure that her skills in TB are significant, the SEC is light years beyond that. My DD had excellent command of her pitches when she won a national championship in TB, and even more so when she did the same in NJCAA. That along with $1 got her a sodie pop when you she arrived in Columbia. Her former teammate learned the same lesson. She was 3 time Gatorade player of the year and found out quickly that what she thought was command and movement does not cut it at the highest level. Wish her the best of luck but anyone who thinks greatness in TB somehow sets one up for success in college has some hard lessons ahead. There are always those better than you, and you soon realize that you are no longer a big fish in a small pond. Much work ahead.
