Hopefully I can make sense with this...

What is it that allows an accurate pitcher to throw one pitch low and outside (right on the corner of the plate) exactly where she wants it...and on the next pitch she throws it high and inside (right on the corner of the plate), exactly where she wants it? I understand as far as high/low goes its a bit earlier/later release to cause the difference in height but what causes the left to right difference (say 17" if she's hitting the corners)? Is it where her front foot lands, is she rotating her torso more, etc? Thanks for any input.

It's a combination of posture, release angles, and most importantly brush contact trigger point. The fingers and wrist play a role, but it's primarily determined by the first 3....

Like Coach James said, control is a combination of a bunch of different things. It doesn't boil down to one or two specific items.

There is a way to teach someone how to have good control, but you can't define exactly how it is done.

I think there is an answer to a similar question:

Is there something a pitcher absolutely must have for consistent control?

The answer to that is posture and brush contact.

What "causes" control is consistent mechanics. Once the mechanics are dialed in then it is a matter of making very small adjustments to the release points. Again, we're talking thousandths of a second difference in the release points. It takes time and repetitions to get command of the strike zone.

Remember, concentrate on the delivery end at the pitching rubber and the rest will take care of itself. Too many people are results oriented instead of process oriented.

Posture that allows the brush interference. Simple! If you stick your but out and don't have the proper posture the release point changes
