Dd is being taught a knuckle change to compliment her circle change. She threw it full pitch for the 1st time and it clocked at 45. Pitching coach said great speed, she is just working on the mechanics still. Excited for this new pitch. Her circle change clocks at 35 with great spin and control.

She isn’t super fast so changing speed is her best weapon. Would like to get a little more speed on her and hopefully will with improving her mechanics.

What’s the pitch supposed to do? Does it actually knuckle/tumble, or is the knuckle related to the grip (and not the movement)?

I’m honestly not sure, the grip slows it down. The spin is not like her circle change which makes that pitch extremely hard to hit. I️ have have been told that her circle change is too slow and good teams will sit back on it but I️ have yet to see that. I️ think this new pitch will make it even more effective at least that is the hope.

I assume it doesn't actually knuckle as in no rotation. The pitcher is using a knuckle (or two) on the ball to slow down the velocity.

I will add that you don't need two change-ups. Get really really really good at one of them.

Tucking a finger or creating a circle with the grip is very easy to spot on the backswing. I'd suggest maintaining the DB/FB grip and apply the Pauly crook and Cat paw meathod. This way it's more deceptive.

I️ think we are thinking of it as more as an offspeed pitch. She really is good at the circle change already.
