It looks like she is throwing a horse shoe while spinning the ball sideways to help cut the speed.

Think of the release between these 2 frames. Releasing with the fingers on side of the ball.

Even better IMO: Pointer finger and thumb lead into release and the ball rolls off the pinky/ring fingers. A good cue is holding a cup of water and splashing it on the target using the pinky and ring finger at the bottom of the cup. This gives the ball top spin which makes the pitch even tougher for the hitter (hopefully not the catcher...)

Yep!! Kinda how I explained it to dd. Was easier for me to get top spin and control with the pinky directly behind the ball at telease.
