If the ball breaks outside off the the plate and to early, what clues do you give to correct this?

Throw it over both sides of the plate. If she's a righty and pitching to a righty, have her work it right at the knee and thigh area, to bring it back over for a strike.

Often times the problem is the front shoulder pulling out as the pitcher throws. She wants to get the ball to her glove side, so she pulls her shoulder there. But to throw an effective breaking pitch you need resistance. So...

Have her work on keeping her front side in as she throws, and on throwing the ball straight and letting the ball do the work.

DD has a good curve ball for her age. It's hard to explain, what I'm seeing but throwing the ball straight and let the ball do the work is probably perfect. Thanks.

I have been telling her to throw through the ball.

Without video it’s really tough to guess. If the spin and control are good, but just misses consistently to the outside—move the target for the short term. To really dial in, move the spots around the zone during practice. Hit the spot no matter where the the glove is held. Make sure to later mix in the other pitches with the goal of throwing all three of her primary pitches to any spot at any time.

Try to get a video of her pitching from the catchers point of view. When my DD is wild outside it is usually caused by her arm not being "slotted" next to her hip. Her arm plane will be 4-5" off her hip and she is essentially "slinging" the pitch outside vs. spinning it.

Just a quick question or poll if you will. With I/R / Whip mechanics do some of you find it easier to teach the "Crop" over the palm up curve? I like the palm up curve, but we just seem to have better results (accuracy, consistent location) with the crop. Looking for feedback! Thanks!

Normally her best pitch but sometimes throws the first 3 or 4 wide with good break and spin. Then throws one or two straight with just some break and then finds it. I think it may have more to do with not finishing her legs. Gap between feet

How are you getting the crop? The corkscrew curve (which I think is how most get a crop) seems to be the easiest and doesn't require long fingers. I think the palm up produces more spin but getting it flat is almost as hard as getting a true backspin rise.

I learned it from a post you did here https://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-pitching/14585-crop-2.html a while back with video of Ricketts Ken B, and Boardmember posted on it with some explanations/instructions on how to throw it.

I've just had better results with this pitch over the palm up curve, and was wondering if others go this route or palm up and what their experiences have been. Seems Palm up might be better way to go! Just looking for feedback! Thanks!

I know this is more of a "Drop" then curve, but if thrown like BM explains it, you'll see the "Curve" in it too!
