My DD usually takes 30+ minutes to warm up for either practice or a game. I want to ensure she is fully warm and mobilized to minimize injury as much as possible.
It all starts with snaps and progressively moves into full pitching so that she is ready 30 mins later. Now whilst we are OK with this, it seems that we could be warming up much faster using other exercises, i.e. J-Band, arm circles, long toss, etc. which have a deeper level of warmup and which are obtained much more quickly. This helps too on game weekend where we have to get warm for every game "in case" - we want to conserve energy and a deeper 15 min warmup could be better that doing a full 30 minutes 2-3 times a day getting ready for a game.
Just wanted to get some views from parents who dont follow the "traditional" warmup progression and what methodologies you use that have been successful. Thx

DD will be turning 18 this weekend and has pitched for approximately 8 years. This is the warmup we have used for the last 5 years or so.

1) Dynamic stretching / warm up. This is an entire body thing but will include some arm circles and other things.
2) Overhand throwing for a few minutes. We start short and gradually move back to 60 feet or so.
3) Underhand throwing for a few minutes. Same as above. She tends to do some walk thrus during this phase.
4) Full motion at full speed. Approximately 15-20 pitches depending on the day.
She has not done 'snaps' since she was 12. I will let the experts here get more involved in that :) From start to finish, she is ready in approximately 15 to 20 minutes and that include the dynamic portion above. During tournaments she tends to stay loose during games and between games. 8 to 10 pitches and she is ready for action.

What you need to do is experiment with different scenarios.

1st game of the day. She has ample time to do all of her stretches and has the time to move through all the different steps to be fully prepared.

During a tournament. Can she stay loose most of the day with throwing 10 - 15 pitches a couple of times a game? Does she need more? How much does extended times between game affect her? Again, experiment so she feels confident she can hit the circle with minimal needed warm-ups. I always warmed up two pitchers for each game. About the 3rd or 4th inning I would send the second pitcher to go throw for a few minutes just to keep her loose. Even if the starting pitcher was cruising.

Tournament running ahead. Yes, I've run into that where the game in front of us ends 30+ minutes early and the umpires are looking for the next two teams before the dugouts have cleared. Try to be aware of how the tournament is running.

The dead cold start. During tournaments you won't find it happening too often. However it can happen in HS. The bus is late picking up the team for an away game. The driver gets lost. Traffic, trains, construction, accidents or any other of the dozens of things we encounter on the road all the time unexpectedly. There will be times when they get to game late and the coach tells her she's starting. You have 10 minutes. If she knows they are going to be late and she is starting she can start working spins on the bus to varying degrees. What she needs to learn is what she can cut out of her extended warm-up and still be game ready from dead cold in a few minutes. Each girl is different, so you'll have to try different variations. The key is she has been through it before and it's not foreign to her putting her in panic mode.

We can only offer suggestions. You know your DD the best. Make sure she understands what she's working on so it won't surprise her when it happens. Often, the toughest part of being a pitcher is knowing what to do outside the circle to be ready physically and mentally.

DD is what she is, she is not trying to get better during warm-up.

She progresses back if she has time but not required.

30 minutes is Ok not pitching, way too long warming up just pitching.

I think was risball said 1 pitch between innings, let's go.
