My dd throws a circle change that is clocked consistently at 32-35 mph. Her fastball is around 55 and I think this changeup is too slow although she has been very successful with it. She usually gets quite a few strikeouts with it and it has great spin on it. I was told that she should add another pitch that is in the 40’s to give her 3 different speeds. Would it be easier to just work with the one she is throwing now or try a whole new grip for her changeup to accomplish a higher speed. She would like to get this pitch before high school season begins If possible.

My DD throws a slurve (slow curveball) as her medium speed pitch. It is thrown exactly like a curve ball, but she pulls a couple of knuckles up on the grip.

DD thows a knuckle ball similar to what JAD's kid is showing...

A knuckle ball is normally thrown with a stiffened wrist and is pushed out of the palm with as little spin as possible. It is a change up vs. a slurve, which has spin and is somewhere between a fastball and a change up.

She does and her pitching coach clocks it. She throws it low for a strike. It has movement and usually the batter will let it fall in for a strike then If they try to swing, they are way out in front. Like I said, I want her to have one that is in the 40’s but would like to use the slow one too. She’s going to experiment with some different grips including knuckle ball.
