A lot of the HE instructors in my area teach this style of drop. I see it almost exclusively with them (not to say others don't teach it this way, just what I see). It also comes with a nasty bend forward too. Crazy thing is they get less movement than what I'm instructing. I teach and preach exactly what you're saying riseball with a few other cues for helping get the digits behind!

Daughter's PC doesn't teach HE and hasn't taught a peel drop. Daughter does struggle keeping the ball up and pulling instead of turning it over and pushing it, though.

My question is really how do I practice with her to get her to finish with her arm out and toward the catcher? This is with her fastball not a drop.

Yes, was just saying that in my area, this is what I see, I am sure there are others who don't instruct HE, that teach this too. Here are some of the cues that i use for my kids. Pressure on middle finger is key, Finish through hips, exaggerate it! Feel ball come off the middle finger. (I always tell them to imagine they have two flags one on both hips, we want to pull through and hit both flags. Hope this helps.

Also if she is pulling back, you can have her touch her other (front left) shoulder when she finishes. I believe Hillhouse would have some kids touch their front shoulder if they were not finishing through their hips.

Will give it a try!

This is about proper throwing not pitching.

Start with a glove snap. Note what she does during the snap vs in the circle. Suspect the will be significantly different.

With the glove just in front of her rear hip, get her to snap hard and come over the top of the glove and lightly brush it with her forearm. Get her palm up at 9, palm down at finish. Once she does this a few times have her do the same thing into a tarp. NOT to a catcher or anyone with a glove. We are focused on proper throwing not where the ball ends up. Get her to whip the arm and pop the tarp.

Sorry I'm having trouble visualizing this - is there a youtube vid?

Good morning DFPers.

DD2 is a strong 10u (11yo) pitcher who has been clocked at 52mph in games, has a great change and is getting consistent with her drop. This season she's 16-2 in 20 starts with a .984 ERA and 112k vs. 23 BB in 61 innings pitched. Over the past few tournaments although she's still been consistently throwing well, she's started doing something different with her arm at/after release. She releases the ball and pulls her arm back instead of allowing it to complete the whip motion. On the gun her speed has dropped a couple MPH because of this and when I remind her it goes back up.

Has anyone had this before and any suggestions on how to break the habit? State tournament is in December and 12U is right around the corner so it would be great to get this resolved ASAP.

Thanks in advance!
DD is 11 and she pulled back her finish for a short time. Video and holding her finish helped. I'm not a pitching coach but my DD was growing and increasing in speed, I thought she was stopping her finish to keep the ball down. She had lost her release point.

Update:

Sent vid to PC and she said exactly what you guys said. She's unintentionally throwing a peel drop every time - pulling up with the palm of her hand instead of leading with her finger tips.
