Mine will not wear a sweatshirt/hoodie so I get her thermal undershirts to wear under her jersey (for games - or just as a shirt for practice). We also got one of those soft training softballs and do T drills and other non-full speed drills indoors.

The only way to learn how to pitch in the cold is to go out and practice in it before hand. A pitcher has to learn what SHE needs to do to get the job done so they are not struggling with it during a game. And when I say practice I mean go out for an hour on multiple occasions. Don't quit because it's cold. Learn how to pitch with underarmor on. She needs to learn how to keep her hand warm. Learn how to pitch with a cold ball. They do not warm them up during the games. Most likely, they are sitting on a table by the TD in the cold. Prepare ahead of time. The same goes for learning how to pitch in the rain as well.

One of the things I tell my pitchers is they have a built-in hand warmer. The armpit of their glove hand. I tell them to stick their hand in there immediately after a pitch if they are not involved with the play, and keep it there until they have received the signal for the next pitch, are on the pitching plate and ready to begin the pitch. At first they go Ewww, but once they figure out it works they do it during games when they are in the circle.

I'm in a cold weather state and my DD pitched when it was snowing in the spring on more than one occasion over the years. Both in HS and college.
Usually dd done playing travel ball before it gets cold.

I am going to ramble in your post a little bit. :)

DD has not played in the cold for a while now but she used to wear a team pullover with pockets and put one of those things you hit to get warm in her pocket, is this legal?

Hurts like heck to hit the ball and I do not think it goes as far, no facts to back me up. I told DD to throw a lot of strikes and try to get off the field as soon as possible.

A couple of thoughts.
Under Armor Cold Gear works very well and does not hinder movement. They are not cheap, but are very effective for for in game use.
Body Warmers are larger than the hand warmers and work well between innings to keep fingers warm quickly.
Ear warmers also seem to be effective.
Cold weather impacts all phases of the game. Hitters hate getting jammed and are a little slower with their swings. Mental toughness is key!

Bought some gorilla gold this weekend and DD said it worked great when we were practicing. Warmed up enough Sunday to not need it. Anyone know if it is still legal for pitchers? Definitely felt better to me.

DD actually got yelled at for that last spring. Coach thought showing the other team she was cold was a sign of weakness. Probably didn't help that she wasn't throwing all that great either. For a MN kid she sure pitches lousy in the cold.
