Is this for real? I must be missing something. I see several articles stating she threw 90 mph and it never mentions being compared to a baseball pitch or being adjusted for distance. Not a pitching guy so please excuse my ignorance on this.

Kathy Arendsen "At 6-foot-2, she presents an imposing figure on the mound, especially when she unleashes her riseball at more than 90 mph. In her rookie year (1978) she had a 23-1 record. This year she was 34-3 and averaged more than two strikeouts an inning as she posted an earned run average of 0.07, including five consecutive no-hitters and 11 perfect games."

If she threw 90mph from 43 feet, I can pretty much gaurantee every game would be a no hitter. It has to be comparative.

Not an expert, but radar technology was in its infancy in 1978....the radar gun at my DD's school in 2017 is still subject to error and according to it DD has unleased some 75+ MPH pitches....I need to take a picture of the scoreboard and send it to the NPF scouts!

Yeah seeing how Adam Folkard throws mid 80s I'm guessing that is comparative. Although maybe it was the same radar gun used to clock Eddie Feigner (the King) this is a quote from the Washington Post.

At his peak, Mr. Feigner threw a softball harder than any major league pitcher has ever thrown a baseball. His underhand fastball was once timed at 104 mph -- or, according to some accounts, 114 mph. The fastest documented pitch ever thrown by a major league pitcher is 103 mph
