DD played in a tourney this weekend. First bracket game was a disaster. We lost we got killed. Defense made some errors. Pitching wasn't lights out. At the end of the game coach tells players to apologize to the pitcher for making errors. LOL I have never heard of such BS.

Yeah that's a coach that doesn't understand teams sports very well. Why doesn't the pitcher apologize for not striking them all out and why didn't every batter get a hit and on and on...it's a team sport win as a team lose as a team and move on.

I'd run, not walk away from that team. This is setting the stage for diva behavior.

Happened to my dd during nationals. Pitcher was getting rocked left and right, making zero effort on her part for defensive plays. Was the fielding flawless? No, definitely not the reason why they lost. Not only was the mom yelling "Support your pitcher" during the game, afterwards, the pitcher gave a 15+ minute lecture on how the players weren't giving it their all, and not supporting her. Instead of the coach putting this player in her place, he co-signed it. It was so bad my dd had to walk away at one point because she couldn't hear the BS anymore Needless to say, we did not rejoin that team.

I've done something similar when addressing the defense. I have told the defense that for every error they make it usually costs the pitcher 5 or more pitches. If they make 3 errors in a game the pitcher is throwing another inning. They need to understand that someone has to shoulder the burden for their mistakes.

I would NEVER let a pitcher address her teammates. And I would never tell them to apologize to the pitcher. I've always told my pitchers that errors are a part of the game as are mistake pitches that get hit hard.

I would think that the fielders realize that they've made a mistake and hopefully you have players who care about their performance. When my dd makes a mistake, no one is harder on her than she is on herself. I'd also try avoiding this(unless it was an absolute and intentional shirt show) because it paves the way for blaming one another and making rationales for subpar performance. The team should share the burden of a loss, just as they'd celebrate together for a win.

WTF. That's insane. Any team that my daughter has been a part of would have shut that crap down before it even started. Since that happened at Nationals, I'm guessing you guys weren't all that surprised by then.

On our team we let the random players give a recap (good and bad) of the game instead of the coaches. We don't call out individuals however individuals have failed to make plays defensively that have led to us not winning the game.

While one play doesn't "cost" us the game one play can in fact lose the game. I wish parents and players understood that distinction better.

I have zero problem with girls talking and recapping after games, but for the pitcher the spend 15+ minutes lecturing her teammates on how they weren't "supporting her"?? Nope nope nope.

Pitchers parents need to do two things:
1) teach their child to control what they can control, the least important pitch of the game was the last one, and the most important pitch of the game is the next one.
2) teach their child the difference between an earned and unearned run.
