What a great Rick Pauly Pitching Weekend. Big Coaches clinic on Friday night and nearly 50 pitchers on Saturday working to improve their skills. Thanks to all the catchers that came and helped their pitchers. Fastpitch Foundations is the best !!!!

Yeah so first team pitching and catching session after returning from Rick's clinic...HC, who has appointed herself PC as well, says to DD "It looks like you are trying to hit yourself. Remember to get your body out of the way so your arm can clear through." *face palm* I am seriously contemplating not having DD pitch anymore b/c I am so tired of squabbling with ppl around here. So I sent HC some slow-mo video of Ueno and Abbott and said some ppl consider these to be the best two pitchers in the world - note what is happening with their pitching arm at and after release.

Curious.....did you get a response. I am really curious what it was. In my book it would be kind of difficult (and insane) to argue with video of those two.

Hope you guys are making progress.....enjoyed meeting you and working with DD.

Thank you Rick - so grateful for all you taught us in Fairmont!

Coach's response was fairly positive:

"I’d be happy to discuss some of this information with you, as I agree with much of what you describe below. In fact, I think we are probably on the same page with a majority of pitching aspects, and if not, we can discuss, to avoid confusion and/or regression with (daughter's name).

I’d also like to help with a bit of the interpretation of what you described below, as I can now see where and why (daughter's name) is doing some of the things she’s doing, and may be able to help her obtain the results she’s hoping for with the concepts you’re looking at.

Most important though, is we can only expect her to tackle one thing at a time.... at most 2 things in a practice, otherwise it becomes overwhelming and there is then no one area receiving 100% attention and dedication which is what is required to master pitching. (And i did apologize to (daughter's name) after our session, stating I will not normally have her focus on multiple things in a single practice... but for the purpose of me seeing where she’s at, I wanted to see what she would do when given different cues for me to better help her in the future)."

Right now big issue, as far as I can see it, is that she is getting into a "superman" position with her shoulders flying open. We talk and talk and talk about getting the glove hand to not whirl around behind her but for some reason this habit (years old now) is really hard for her to break. So she leaks a lot of power and because she is open to the plate so quickly, her arm is off plane and she has to sling the ball around herself.

She throws so, so hard from 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock but when we get to full circle she cannot keep that glove hand under control and everything is out of alignment, throwing the timing off and causing consistent misses to the right-handed batter side of the plate.

And following up with this...haven't had the one-on-one chat with HC yet but she was throwing to catchers the other day at practice and is TEXTBOOK with respect to brush trigger and I/R. Textbook. Was great to see; the video evidence is completely irrefutable. So now the conversation is "If you are a great pitcher and you do exactly what I have been talking about, why can't you convince yourself to teach your pitchers to do the same?"

I think I've got this won.
