DD is primarily a catcher/SS but back in Spring 2016 took some group pitching lessons. She pitched some that season and then pitched 1-2 innings/game in Fall 2016. She barely pitched Spring 2017 but this season, they need her to pitch again. (She's 12U)

She's never been a fast pitcher but is fairly accurate - she does get hit off a lot though - which wouldn't be that bad if we had a better defense to back her up. I got a video of her during practice this weekend - not super great video but curious if ya'll can see if there's anything we can do to help her. The only knowledge we really have about pitching is what we heard the PC tell her but since she's been focused more on catching now, she hasn't worked on it much at all. (Thx)

Honestly it's pretty hard to just dabble in pitching...it's a big commitment to get it right. Now I do know girls that just throw ever now and then and are an emergency pitcher but if she is expected to be the #1 or #2 it will take time.

Hard to tell from the clip but looks like she is about where you would expect someone to be who does not pitch, kinda has a few basics and can get the ball over the plate...but that is not what I'm assuming she wants to do.

The biggest question is does she want to commit to pitching?

Catching and pitching are so specialized it’s hard to do both. You’re pretty much looking at being mediocre at both or focusing on one and being great.

She's still at a point where catching and SS are her two primary positions. She's in rec and she's on a team now where they need a pitcher so she'll be pitcher/catcher. I'd rather her catch for this team but the other girls we have that "can" pitch are not as good as her. It's fall so I'm not really concerned with it but it'd be good if she had the mechanics still. Not sure if she had lost everything in the last few seasons.

I think she likes pitching but it's not necessarily something she would want to stick with.. TBH, when she stuck around at evals for pitching, I was surprised she was still able to get it over the plate ;)

DJ Carter is right, its hard to both pitching and catching. Pretty soon you'll have to choose. Because both will require more and more time commitments. But if you got a low level rec team where she can play some, no harm in doing that. Maybe She'll catch the pitching bug and go for it. Keep the dream going a little longer.

For rec ball, your dd pitching would be fine. It is a great way to try out other positions. Rec ball seemed much more relaxed than travel or even school ball...DD had fun being a catcher in rec but that isn't her specialty. At college camps, even though she had caught, she never mentions being a catcher. I actually think it is a good idea for pitchers and catchers reverse role to see exactly how one another feels. I know with my dd, she appreciates how much work you catcher puts in to make her look good.
