1st fall tourney... DD played the field in the pool play games and hit well. Got her pitching start in the 1st bracket game and didn't make it too far... partial torn MCL and dislocated knee cap in her drive/pivot leg. :(

ez.....did this happen while she was pitching? Seems like an odd injury from pitching since the drive leg doesn't really sustain the impact and torque that the stride leg/knee does.

Yes, she was pitching. You are correct that it is an odd non-contact injury. First off, let me say that my daughter is not a big beefy or real athletic built kid. She's begun filling out some but she's still pretty much a rail standing 5'7" and weighing under 120#'s. With that being said, she has an explosive drive and IMHO drives harder than any other kid we see in our area. It was after her initial drive and after toe touch of the stride leg. She was "open", driving her back-side lower half at release and she must have caught her cleat or something. If you are able to picture what I've described then you can probably see the stress that could cause on the inner knee. They did find a large rock in the drag area after we left for medical attention.

ez....maybe you could post a video clip that we could search for an answer.

In total speculation.....if she is really forcing her opening movement and landing the stride foot at 90 degrees....I have seen some extremely stressful toe drags to the point of the toe facing second base with a long locked out drag leg.....IMO this could cause some real ankle/knee issues.
